I was told b4 in this forum than on  my '97 240 i wont have problems if i run 17x8 w/ 225/45/17 up front and 17x9 w/ 245/45/17 in rear. But i was told today on another topic that the sizes are incorrect. Can some tell me the maximum size i can run with 17" rims? And i perfer 45 profile, i really dont want 40's and definitly nuttin lower. I really dont want to find out that they rub AFTER I get them.

Thanx

i run 225's in the front and rear, as long as the radius on a 17'' wheel with a 45 profile tire is the exact same as my 16'' with a 55 you'll be ok, otherwise the inside of the tire rubs on the strut, i'm guessing you could get a specific offset to combat this, as far as the rear goes, i don't remember anything being close to in the way so i would guess the 245's would fit

check www.veilsideusa.com go to Silvia S14 CI Model (after M/C) for body kits. youll see a pic of a light blue car and a black car.....wheels fit perfectly! in all the lettering jumble (cuz it doesnt translate??) youll see the name "MARRIOTTO". look close and youll see they list the wheel & tire sizes as they appear on the cars! if you like that staggered look....follow those specs. if not follow the specs for the front & use same on back.
PS site was down just now so.......keep trying. hope that helps.

what I said in the other topic:

45 is not a set number...it's an aspect ratio--a percentage of the tire width. &nbsp;Both of the sizes I gave have a sidewall of 3.5&quot;...even though one is 40 series and the other 35. &nbsp;If you go with the taller sidewall you may encounter rubbing problems...especially if the car is lowered, and your speedo will be somewhat off. &nbsp;If the low sidewall worries you that much, go to 16&quot;s. &nbsp;
</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
The sizes that you're talking about are 1&quot; taller (0.5&quot; increase in radius) in the front and 2&quot; taller (1&quot; increase in radius in the rear. &nbsp;After looking at my car, it looks like there's enough room to clear those increases. &nbsp;But think about it...there are no benefits from this. &nbsp;You're elevating your center of gravity by .5&quot; in the front and 1&quot; in the rear and you're making your gearing a little worse. &nbsp;
In conclusion, I guess the front tire size (225/45/17) is ok...but bring the rears down to 245/40/17's. &nbsp;That will give you ~4&quot; sidewalls front and back.

Lance S13...so if i go with 225/45/17 all around i should be okay rite??? Oh yeah...mah car is lowered 1.7&quot; in front &amp; 1.4&quot; in rear...does dat make a diff???

You should be ok. &nbsp;Mine is lowered 1.8/1.6&quot; and it looks like another 1/2&quot; of tire would clear everything. &nbsp;However, if you plan to go to 9&quot; rims in the rear, you'll need the 245's...at least 235's. &nbsp;Talk to somebody that fits tires for a living (tirerack could probably help) about offset and clearance. &nbsp;The correct offset will be more important than the height of the tire...so make sure you get the right size rims.

How about the wheel offset? &nbsp;the offset on the wheels can make a difference also.

245's on 9 inch rims seems wrong. &nbsp;I'm debating wether i need to step to 7.5&quot; rims to fit 225's, but a 7&quot; rims should still work. &nbsp;I doubt you need 1.5 to 2 more inches to clear 20 more mm when ~24mm = 1&quot;. &nbsp;You could probably put the 225's on 7.5&quot; rims and the 245's on 8&quot; rims. &nbsp;9&quot; seems high.

I run 235s on 8.5s it is possible to run 245s on 9s a lil bit narrow but no biggie

I'd probably step it to 255...maybe 265, but 245's should fit fine. &nbsp;I was just working with the width he gave me. &nbsp;I personally would go to 7.5&quot; rims to run 225 tires...that's what I got now.

If you know what tire you are planning on getting then you can find out what that manufacturer recomends for rim width using that tire size. &nbsp;I know Bridgestones website has pretty good info about width and diameter stuff. &nbsp;Their website is kinda mirrored on Tirerack's. &nbsp;If you go the the specific tire and click on specs that should help you out. &nbsp;Keep in mind that super wide rims with a narrower tire will be more likely to hit things and dent the rim. &nbsp;Also, that look is kinda ghetto in my area (think caddy with hydraulics :-) &nbsp;You can always space the rim out a inch or so if you want to run a wider tire, but you have to be carefull that the tire doesn't stick too far out of the fender. &nbsp;If you change spacing, then you are going to have to change offset, also if you add width to the stock setup (rim wise) then you are going to also have to change offset compared to stock. &nbsp;I would talk to the wheel manufacturer about this stuff once you know how wide of a tire you are going to run and how far away fromt he hub plane any clearance problems are.

Ummm...Lance, Im getting confused. Maybe i dont need 17x9's to run 245/45/17 (REAR) but will that sized tire rub???

That I can't tell you. &nbsp;I'm trying to find that out myself actually...if they will fit, it'll be tricky. &nbsp;I want to eventually run 8.5's. &nbsp;I know 8's will fit...and my 7.5's have plenty of room to grow.
Do a search...I'm sure you'll find something. &nbsp;There was a thread up not long ago with a pic of an S13 with 9.5's in the rear.
