It opens and closes the straight pipe right before your muffler.
what goods and bads does opening straight pipe have??
I know you will lose some power at launch, but once rpm is over 4000rpm it help??!!!!
Has anyone thought about this ?

The Celica GTS and a couple other Toyotas have something like this. I recall at least an SCC and C&D article on the subject. I'm sure there's some info out there - try yahoo.

it's there for sound purposes. You do this so you can have pretty much a straight exhaust pipe, no cat, and still be able to drive around town. You keep it closed, then when you want to race, you open it up, for more airflow.....although, realistically, you'll only see any good performance differences with a turbo. for NA, you'll see a difference comparible to the CAE on an intake...possible 2-3 hp.

Nah, this is a thing that just opens to a straight pipe. But the factory variable mufflers are interesting. IIRC Nissan was actually the pioneer of the technology. The Maxima uses one currently... I think some version of the Skyline GT-R got one first.

sounds can be very deceiving, so even if i have one i still have no idea if it helps at low speed...but i'm sure it helps at high rpm ..like...4000rpm + ,, but don't know by how much.
I don't know why muffler can help at lower speed...don't you need back pressure at low speed to push the car?
