Got this from PC Magazine volume 26 number 19. Pretty crazy stuff.
Forget about those old-school spy devices planted under phones and inside vases. For the most covert spy operations, the U.S. government is planning to create cyborg insects with microscopic sensors, video surveillance cameras, and global positioning systems to aid the Department of Defense. A "solicitation notice" from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) explains how HI-MEMS (hybrid insect microelctromechanical systems) will introduce nanoscale electronics in moths and other insects during their early stages of metamorphic development. New tissue growth would accommodate the MEMS implants in later metamorphic stages. The proposal also suggests the use of swimming and hopping insects with embedded microphones for reording conversations an gas sensors for detecting new chemical warfare testing. "We are currently supporting three research teams at the University of Michigan, MIT, and Boyce Thompson Institue," says Jan Walker, a DARPA spokesperson. "The insect species being investigated include large moths and horned beetles."

They have already created a micro mechanical Dragonfly.
This is why James Bond no longer impresses me. When I was a kid, Q would show Bond all these crazy ass weapons and inventions that were too far fetched to actually work. Now-A-days, by the time we think of building something James Bond-ish, Japan has already been using them for 6 months or more. :keke:
I guess I'll just sell my Lotus Esprit Submarine.

Didn't some "enhanced" dolphins escape a year or so ago? I can't seem to find the news article anywhere...
EDIT: Found it. (http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1577753,00.html) They may not be sharks or lasers, but it's a start?

Haha great more ways for the government to watch what everyone is doing... I remember hearing something about they can listen to our cell phone conversations whenever they feel like...
@jrmiller84's find - Haha again... Maybe not be sharks or lasers, but indeed it is a start

Hahahaha, if you think this is the best technology we have.
Like I said, these mechanical bugs have been around for a little while now. They are just getting smaller and smaller. I'm pretty sure I read about this in the 1980's, and it wasn't Secret information then either. Besides, when was the last time you got up close and personal with a Cockroach, Bee, Wasp, Dragonfly, Beetle, or any other bug to see if was real or not?
We have ONE telescope out in space that can see the end of the universe. Hubble.
How many do you think we have pointed at the Earth monitoring things wherever we feel like.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but seriously... Do you honestly think our real Secrets are the topic of a Magazine Article?

I'd continually spray my house for insects, and whatever didn't die, I'd smash the shit out of it. Problem solved.
