Another "Engine Cranks, but wont Start"

This is for a RWD SR20DE swapped into a Datsun 1600. The engine ran fine until one day I tried to start it and it would only crank. Im getting fuel pressure so I believe this is spark related. I did a search and read that the ignitor or coil could go bad. Are the DET and DE ignitor/coils different since I don’t have coil packs?
Please point me in the right direction to what should be replaced.

your ignition timing might be off. check to see if ur getting spark, by pulling the spark plug wire one by one starting with cyl #1 and down the line. putting it to a ground to see if it sparks.

chck your ignitor as you stated above. check your battery.

could be faulty crankshaft sensor, or the crankshaft wirings shorted.

Because this is a custom wiring job, I am most likely going to point towards the relays you used to replace the ECCS relay system are going to be at fault, that or a fuse.


Test the supply power of the fuel injectors.
Test the grounding of the injectors by the ecu using an led while cranking.
Pull a plug wire, stick a plug in it and ground it to see if the spark plug is firing.
Check to see if the lights on the ecu light up when key'd on.
The coils on the DE dont really go bad, they are pretty beefy and a single coil.

You should be able to start pinpointing the source of your problem from here.

Okay, turns out, I am getting spark. Took out each spark plug and grounded them and each one sparked. Which makes me think I am not getting fuel into the cylinders. I assumed that since my pump is priming, I am getting fuel. Could it be that my injectors arent working?
How do I test the power supply of the injectors as johngriff, suggested?

1 side of the injector connector should have battery voltage when keyed into the ON position.

Should be the same for all 4 injector connectors.

I am having the same problem with my car getting to start, only that my car was running before I changed out the old oil filter. WEIRD, huh?

I have spark on all 4 cylinders, ecu power light turns on, my mechanical fuel pressure gauge in the engine bay is at about 60psi, and I am at 15 degrees BELOW top dead center, with NO power at the injectors AT ALL!

When you figure out your problem, HEATED HEAVY, please LMK ASAP!! IM STUCK IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU!!

well, if its oem chassis junk, then its the EGI or ECCS relay. Or a connector on the lower power harness you knocked loose.

Or.

You could put a new relay in line, with battery/alt voltage and just rewire the power side of the injectors. Its just switched power off the relay on request of the ECM, single wire out, merge to 4 wires then to the injectors. Thats how its done stock.
