Hey Grumpy,
he means a different Gary . Gary is my main mechanic man for transmission swaps . I get the part for people and he does the work . Grant just had a tranny and new clutch installed by him. Not trying to step on any toes or anything just trying to clear up the confusion.
240meowth,
if you want the swap done through the guy Grant went to you need to talk to me. I represent him for these swaps . Why ??Because I am the one that gets you your parts for the swap.

Yoshi,
YES, We would make you a package deal when you do a swap with us. Mainly because it is easier with the motor out all ready.
Just hit me up at the shop when you are ready.

about how much does it cost for the parts/labor to do the trans swap?

how hard is the swap to do? can an amateur like me do it? I have some automotive experience, but given the time and money, I'm sure I can figure it out. I've looked at ALLDATA for the removal and installation of the auto and manual trannies, they look simple and straightforward, but I forget that I need other stuff too.
there was a page on fatman-racing about the swap, it listed all the stuff I needed, but the page is down. can anyone list the parts I need, and some tips? I'll prolly have a real mechanic help me with the swap when I do decide to do it. auto's getting really boring, ever since I've learned how to drive stick.

ok , here's the low down on the auto -manual swap
there was a page on 240sx.org in the installs section about the swap on a S14. Well I found out it was incomplete and now the link for it is down.
So here goes the complete parts list which I learned the hard way this is whats needed for both cars S14 and s13
5 speed trans of course price$350-500 depending on mileage
(unless you get yourself hooked up on a killer deal) same on both cars
5 speed trans crossmember (yes its needed) same on both cars
5 speed driveshaft s13 is different than s14
manual flywheel (price up in air) same on both cars
flywheel bolts( manual ones are longer)
clutch bolts
manual trans to engine mounting bolts( longer than the auto ones)
manual trans backing plate
clutch master( slave is usually on the transmission)
clutch line
clutch pedal
auto brake pedal can be shortened and is actually eaiser to do than dropping your steering column to install manual brake pedal
ok thats the mechanical parts side of things. complete parts swap prices run as follows(keep in mind I have done a lot of work to round up these parts)
swap parts without transmission $200-300 I was doing this for a little cheaper before but it got to be a pain rounding up every last part because you either buy it new for big bucks or run from yard to yard. Why because a lot of the JUnk guys throw these parts away thinking no one will want them and they have no value but when you come to actually get them they rake you over the coals because all of a sudden someone actually wants it and they have to dig it up.
so to sum it up parts with trans $550-700
ok here is the phat part of the deal . I can get the labor done for cheap at a very reputable trans shop in Commerce $200-$250
Now on the wiring side things were not clear in the original 240sx.org link.
Having now had first hand experience with the s14 and about to do the s13 I figured I will share this.
Wiring up the trans after install . On the S14 the trans harness is part of the engine harness so you keep your auto trans ECU . the only problem wiring wise ,which we are working on right now is the computer is still looking for an auto trans and not seeing one. Which is throwing a code which turns on your check engine light.
Car is running fine install is successful. Just this little annoying problem. When we have complete wiring info on how to fix this I will post it. We are working on it.
We shall also see what happens with the S13 because we are going to do it the same way.

Hey, to the guy doing the auto-manual swaps, I'm curious to know if I will need any parts for my car. I am doing the RB25DET swap as well soon but my kouki is an auto.. can I use the parts from the skyline clip or do I need the clutch master and slave cylinders from an s14? also pedals and hydraulic clutch lines? thanks
