i wouldn't mind having the 300HP N/A engine under the hood of a nissan in the early 80's. challenge a few unsuspecting 200 hp vettes and 180 hp camaros <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> never said it would be street legal.

I believe it originally came from the S12 200sx (silvia) but only in Japan. In the US, they released it with the CA18. They seem like kick ass engines, but really hard to find.

**Cool article-good info

i thought it went as far back as the S110 (which i'm pretty sure also had the L-series block).

The S110 was powered by several engines - one was a 1952cc 4 cylinder producing 89kW as well as a 1770cc (presumably for the 180SX?) 4 cylinder engine yielding 68kW at 5800rpm and 139Nm at 3600rpm. Nissan also apparently experimented briefly with a rotary engine (supposively something similar in design to the Mazda 10A rotary) in the S110, but it was short lived as most Silvia's continued to be fitted with the conventional 1770cc engine.

Infact, here is the link where I got this :
Link (http://members.iinet.net/~sayers/biscuits/history.htm) <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

And there is an FJ20 and an FJ20DET, they were both ofered in the S12 and I think that the FJ20DET was in the R30 Skyline. Let me know if I'm wrong.

The way I remember it, the S11 came with the rotary, but the oil crisis of that time (or something like that) drove Nissan to change their minds and use a conventional combustion engine, which is why the S11 became the S110.

#2
I forgot which is the other engine, but supposedly the FJ is one of two engines that doesn't follow Nissan's designation pattern: supposedly the FJ20DET is officially the FJ20ET, even though it's a DOHC engine.

#3
Cannon fodder for the KA crew:
The ultimate version of the FJ is the FJ24(D)ET, the stroked 2.4L version of the FJ20. &nbsp;Longer stroke, shorter piston skirts, iron block.... ring any bells???

#4
This engine came in the 240RS (as apparent from the previous link), so isn't the "pure racing" Nissan a 240??

The FJ20ET also came in the Tekkamen Skyline and I think in the Newman also. &nbsp;I can't remember what year they were but those were the nicknames. &nbsp;there was a intercooled and a nonintercooled version. &nbsp;Oh yeah they were the R30 models. &nbsp; They were later replaced by the RB20 engine in the R31 though. &nbsp;I thought they were pretty good engines. &nbsp; You can still find them at different drag meets back in Japan(especially in Okinawa) &nbsp;I'll see if I can dig up some pictures if someone would host them for me ( I don't have alot though)

dont forget a version of the CA made it into the skyline way back in the pre-rb times (hard to think of an L4 skyline)

plus there is a S12 RS-X (FJ20DET) that runs a 10.91 on drag radials and is not tubs and looks like its stock except the tires it looks stock and its on that FJ20 page

Hell i have an S12 with a VG30E in it and its pretty quick but i would trade any day for a RS-X and give them both of my kidneys

NEVAR!!
Also - interesting fact:

True engine code is FJ20ET. Not DET, even though it IS DOHC.

Nissan can be idiots sometimes! :D

They're not idiots... they just hadn't started use of the 'D' code yet. The S20 from the classic Skyline GT-R was also DOHC.

the engines in some of the S110's were L20B's and L18's.
The S20 was also offered in the rare and fabled Fairlady z 432 which was a totally trick factory 240z with G nose stock rear short lip spoiler factory fender flares limited slip differential and 5 speed and this was all in 1970!!!
Nissan North America used FJ24's in their Datsun comp factory sponsored race trucks .
heh, I sold FJ20's they used to be the dream engine for 510 owners. Most people settled for SSS L series engines and put bigger cams in them with solex or weber sidedraft carbs in place of the stock SSS dual SU carb setup
