I was looking for a new shift knob and I saw one that said 1.4 times heavier tan conventional Shift knobs. I always figured a lighter one was better. Which do you all like, and are there any advantages disadvantages to either of them?

i dont think theres a diff in weight or weight shift knobs actually does anything [correct me if im wrong] but i think most important is how fat u want the shift knob to be? i think the bigger it is..or fatter the better would be better for more grip and to palm ur hand rather than a chopstick one

Anyway.

Yes, in most cases a heavier shift knob will give you better shifter "feel", it won't seem to float around or whatever. Shifts will probably feel more precise with a slightly heavier shift knob, and smoother (in general).

indeed weighted shift knob gives you a better feel, but there is also another theory that weighted shift knobs can kill your tranny... but i guess that's in a LONG TIME

I really like heavy shift knobs, I don't know how to explain it, but it just feels better.

Really? Wow I never heard of that b4. I hope that isn't true, because my Greddy shift knob has some good weight to it, and I definitely prefer it over a lighter type of knob. Come to think of it, the stock shift knob was pretty heavy too now that I recall. I hope Nissan wasn't hoping the tranny would go.

i thought the heavier ones helped to reduce short shifter rattle .?.?.? if that makes any sense...thats what i heard anyway...o well the heavier ones do feel better though

If it reduces short shifter rattling then I definately need a heavy one cause my short shifter rattles like a baby rattle.

I've had a cupple cheap shift knobs before and I always convert back to the stock one because it feels better. I might just have to envest in an expensive heavy one and try it

Im DriftMonkey's friend with the RX-7. And yes the heavier knobs will make you have less of a rattle if any at all. ANd it will also be a smoother and easier shift. This is the one I have and Dan(DriftMonkey) just bought. Only prob for you guys is that it says Mazdaspeed on the side... very very small though so no one would notice anyway. Heres the pic of mine...

FYI I have a Tenzo R shift knob that came with 3 different weights that go inside it. They are very noticable even with the solid OBX short shifter. I've got the heaviest one in now it says it's for racing but I use it all the time I love the heavier feel.

got one from Japan that is super light. Its like a regular shift knob, but its very hollow and light. The box description says something about feeling each shift or something. Its made by Monza and its nice.

I'm pretty sure that the stock heavy knobs were stuck on there to mask the grinding that can sometime occur. Basically the tranny cant pick up too fast a shift, at least thats what I think

just to throw my opinion out there i changed the stock knob for a lot lighter one with a carbon look(OH NEAT) and i like it better.. i think its more of a personal preference more than anything.. it wont really change shifting times unless your REALLy weak... when i compare it to my Z i like the lighter feel even more... the Z leather shifty knob is freakin' heavy

gotta agree with that one.
ive got a lighter one too and i quite like it. It feels that the heavier ones are slow or something, lighter has a better feel in my opinion
