I figured with all the Threads about accidents liability and policies concerning Insurance Lets start a thread about Insurance Companies.

After being involved in 2 accidents within the year. Ive learned a lot about the working of getting your claimed settled. With some tidbits about insurance companies and their policies, since i know no one ever looks at insurance companies for their policies rather by their quotes.

Its California Law that you have the right to bring your vehicle to any collision repair specialist, The insurance will provide an adjuster to check over vehicle.

Farmers: Repair policy is the use of Aftermarket or Reconditioned Parts for the repair of vehicle, If repairs completed by contracted autobody shop repairs are warrantied. (I was recently rear ended by a student with farmers insurance. They are refusing to use Oem nissan parts to repair my altima).

Progressive:After Market Used, Reconditioned, Oem used, Oem as last ditch effort. If repairs are costly enough repairs might be held off until parts for repairs become available cheaper.

Accidents at which you are not at fault and Repairs exceed fair market Value of car, Getting More for your vehicle: As stated in another thread a settlement for the price of your vehicle is an agreement between you and the insurance company. When i was hit head on at an intersection by an old lady insured by Allstate the first offer for my totaled accord (00 250k miles oxidized rear paint) was 2.5k. Remember fight for what you feel is right. In the end i settled the vehicle at 7.5k. How? Ones man trash is another mans treasure. Begin by contesting the fair market value of youra vehicle. The goal is to search within your area for vehicles in similar condition mileage and year to adjust against your car. Keep all receipts for work done on your car. If they are reasonable enough they will adjust the quote for recent repairs to your car. If theres more please add.

As Info grows on policies and procedures on insurance companies i will update this hopefully creating a faq to help the community concerning our cars. After all we are driving old as chassis with money in them which usually leads to Rape in insurance claims.

WOW! I can't believe Allstate offered you only 2.5k for your 00 accord. That definately is not market value.

That seems about right if you commute a lot. My brother's 06 Mazda 6 has 85k. He drives 45 miles each way to work, and makes several trips consisting of more than 250 miles one way.
