1990 s13 originally auto
s13 sr20det redtop w/ 5 speed tranny
automatic sr redtop harness
automatic dual cam cluster

a few quick Q's

hooked up dual cam cluster from an 91 automatic parts car. CEL is constantly on, no clock, no lights work besides the CEL and gas light when it reads above full. (i have below 1/4 of gass) RPM also twitches/jumps to 3k and back down when i turn the key to accessories.Could this be a problem with using an auto cluster or do you have to use the dual cam cluster harness? I have my original cluster harness from my auto sohc. maybe a problem with using an automatic sr engine harness?

any problem using a auto sr engine harness for a 5 speed swapped car? anything different in the wiring job compared to traditional 5 speed sr engine harness? only thing different i can find on the auto harness is the under dash white plug on the "L" bend after the firewall and a few small plugs right before the 3 plugs on the end of the sr harness on the passenger side. When i spliced the wires for the 3 plugs on the end of the sr harness, everything went smooth but there was 2 brown wires for the O2 positive. I just picked one and then wired it to the red/black switched 12v+ via frsport.com's guide.

Also do i need to do anything with the 3 plugs mounted on the end of the fuse box on automatic cars?

searched but still unsure. please help.
Thanks

ER did you hook up chk light wire? CUz this wire is add in from ecu #25 to white plug, if I remember correctly. plus check old posts on the cluster.

either you just plugged the corresponding colors from the dash harness and the SR harness into each other (which is not correct, search for how to wire a cluster for an SR harness), or you have a bad dash. The clock/etc lights up when u give the dash power, not on some magical signal from the ECU.

Check your wiring, then try another cluster.

the cluster might me jacked up. But usuing a auto cluster with a 5spd doesnt matter. Im doing it now.. only Im reading km/h.. (sr sensor)

LOL no. Your Sensor just has a weird gear on it for a different ratio diff.

You shouldn't have any problems like what you are describing, unless you screwed the very basic wiring up.

Whats your tps setup like? Not that it is relevent to this question, but you said you were using an auto sr EFI harness, are you using it with a oem 5psd SR?

inside the cluster there is actually a potentiometer that will allow you to calibrate your speedo with the readout of the sensor from the SR wiring harness but you have to take the cluster apart to get to it. It works though... The weird jumping is most likely a faulty wiring job as griff stated.

ronin207: didn't quite get what your saying.

gsxrjordan: basic wiring indeed, ran through it just to make sure and its all good. buying another cluster but in the mean time will a single cam cluster help me?

johngriff: using a auto TPS so its just plug and play or atlease i think.

ill do some electrical testing and hope i get a new cluster soon. thanks
