brought the starter to work and tested it and was all good. gear pops out and turns over when on the machine. put it in the car and its a no good. no activity from the starter when i try starting it. tried feeding direct power to the starter while in neutral and still nothing. maybe the star will do it job on the machine because there is no work load?

shot in the dark here but... is the engine siezed? previous problem with ka, piston vs crank vs engine block. the piston won!

Turn the crank with the cas or battery unplugged. See if it turns over. If it dose then check to see if your battery is fully charged and the positive wire to the starter is not corroded.

Well, was everything in working order before?
If so, can be an electrical problem. Check ur cables/power (12VDC)when key is turned and ignition switch (contacts maybe dirty).

try it with jumper cables and a flat blade screw driver. If it keeps trying to engage and then disengage then the starter needs the bendix replaced. Any starter shop can rebuild a SR starter.

its a fresh swap. got everything hooked up and wired and ready to go. just not getting power to the starter. I have 1 ground from the pass. side shock tower to the intake mani. grounded the batter to trunk (relocated) what other gorunds should i check?

Did this car start before the sr went in? Could be starter relay or short. If 12volts makes it to the starter, all it needs is a ground, simple as that.

car ran good on a auto single cam. started up everytime. its a 5 speed conversion so no clutch pedal switch. i fed it direct power while it was on the machine and on the car. no activity. no clicks no sounds nothing. i was thinking the internals of the starter will work when there is no work load (flywheel).

Did you bypass the neutral position sensor?

If you did then try and run a wire from the negative in the trunk to the shock tower negative up front. Make sure your battery has good power over 12v. Check for 12v from the signal to the starter when you turn your key. Check for 12v from the positive wire to the starter also.

thanks ill give that one a try nassin31spr (http://www.zilvia.net/f/member.php?u=53766). also having a wierd problem with some other electrical. just put in a dual cam cluster and it dosent seem to working correctly. CEL stays on regardless. gas light is on when it reads more than full (i know i have less than 1/4) hazard blinker relay goes off but dosent light up on cluster, no time, nothing else works. do i need the dual cam cluster harness?

Yup. Its always a good idea to buy the cluster with the original harness that way your not hunting for the right one. Sohc and dohc use different cluster harness'.
