My sentiments exactly, I have read on a BB somewhere that a guy was close to completing his 240sx, he had a full RB26DETT (Skyline) drivetrain in it, including the AWD. Dont remember where i saw it but I know it was expensive.
jeez can u guys imagine how are cars would be AWD? with a lil more power and all wheel drive OMFG! they'd be sick!
I pondred on the Idea of putting a tranny off one of the 4wd KA trucks. but then with all the work for a crappy tranny and an extra 500lbs er so isnt worth it. I love my RWD <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

i agree. in most cases, the extra weight negates all the gains. you really have to have a high hp car to pull off awd.

Well why is it that an Eclipse GS-X will spank a 240 WITH a lightly modded SR20DET, AND the Eclipse weighs some few hundred pounds more?

And most people don't understand the rigours of driving an AWD... I am not nuts about it, and at motoX I have seen more awd talons, eclipses go off the road than anything. People don't know how to drive them when they start to drift, and it is a lot more weight. You are talking at least an extra 50hp to get the same type of performance. So much extra crap and linkage to go through. If you had a fwd and wanted to convert... sure. But you already have it right! Race cars are rwd... not awd, that should tell you something... We are already alright!

Lets see a GSX eclispe spank a 240 with a SR20DET on a top end freeway race or race from 35 mph, i dont think so.

hypothetically:
gsx's can only beat 240's w/ sr20's because they hook up off the line so much better... high end the 240 would win hands down.

Its just like People in the DSM world. people Buy the GS-T's becuase that top out better and quicker. People buy the AWD's becasue they shoot out like a bat out of ####

While I love RWD, AWD is certainly something to consider. It gets better traction to the ground, it's faster, and goes in snow a helluva lot easier. Food for thought:
If you take a RWD car and an AWD car and race them around the same track, the RWD will lead for a while. However, after a few laps, the AWD will pass the RWD simply because it is pushing AND pulling, while the RWD is only pushing.
The only reason people go off the road with AWD is because they don't know how to drive with AWD. A lot of my buddies have Subis back home and they rally the piss out of them. I haven't had an AWD car break traction yet with a decent driver. It's downright hard.

first, i always thought that the beauty of the 240 was the near 50/50 weight distrobution, wouldn't the transfercase and added drivetrain completely screw that in the @$$?
also, i must agree, scubis are #### cool, but i know they have a viscous setup that makes them 60/40 power front and rear respectively, and htey REALLY ARE wonderful, but a lot of thought and years of design got them where they are now, i am not sure a conversion (no matter how well done) can boast the same
sorry about the length... venting

if its true that awd is faster than a rwd in a race, why does the r34 skyline that run in jgtc japan converted the awd configuration to rwd altough the rulling says that they can run the original awd setup.whats the reason for this? im a bit confused.

if u throw the right engine in there and get the awd setup u'd be havin some great fun im sure.... i can only imagine however the weight distribution would be all f'ed up
