Z31 w/ RB26...

whats up everyone, i just thought id post this and see if anyone has any info for me. i own an S14 with an SR, but i just recently bought my wife an 88' Z31 turbo. i've seen some pics of them with the RB26 and i plan on trying the swap sometime next year. but i want to do as much research as possible before i even begin. The SR swaps are simple, ive done three, but i dont expect this project to be anything near easy. But if anyone has info for me or if anyone has done this swap i would really appreciate the help. thanks for any help you may have.

first of all, its a clear title, one owner, Shiro.some idiot repainted due to some rust. i ran the VIN just to check cuz i didnt believe it. but it comes back as a white Shiro with the black interior. the AC still works, there is no gas smell that you refer to and it runs great. i just dont like the old ass engine and she doesnt either. she drives it every day though, and she loves it. so thanks for all your help but i dont think you know much about the car. if you do and im wrong i apologize in advance. i just thought maybe someone would have some help. thanks for your input though.....lol

oh my bad, im sorry man, i thougt you werer bashing my idea.....lol. but anyway, yeah she doesnt mind the downsides of things like that. she's an enthusiast like the rest of us. i think it may have been a theft recovery or something because the interior has been replaced, and not well i might add. but we plan to restore it and do the swap. ill try and get some pics up for you guys......of the car i mean, not the wife....lol.

I know there are companies out there that makes engines mounts to drop in RBs into them. I know the idea of dropping RBs in Z31s has been around alot longer than we came up with the idea of dropping them in S-chassis.

we're gonna repaint it white and put the black recaro interior back in as close to original as we can. i found most of the black interior, and im gonna just get some new recaro seats..because the orininal seats were recaros

There was a article on a car recently in super street that had a z car with rb26 in it. The swap was done by MA Motorsports IIRC. Looked really clean and no doubt there is a increase in performance. I was searching the web and came across another company that has performed the swap, but I can't remember. I think I found a video for their car on youtube or something and followed their company link. Hope this helps.

While I am noting that this thread was just revived after dying 4 1/2 months ago, I'd like to point out that RB20s came stock in Z31s in the Japanese* market. :)







*it could have possibly been the European market or something, but I'm pretty sure it was Japan.

Even though this thread is old I had a couple of pics to share...

As for the engine, I'd just rebuild and restore what's in there... Putting an RB26 in there will end up a very expensive project not suitable for a daily driver...

It all comes down to time and money... If it's worth it to you, do it!...

If I had any advice for the OP (if he's still even around) it would be too keep the RB as stock as possible. A simple intake, exhaust, a quality IC, and a good tune (and maybe an HKS Vcam =D).

Would be sick and not have so many complications to deal with like a single-turbo monster would.

the amount of money your gonna do for that swap is pointless
you can get the same amount of power with the swap as you would with building the motor, for less money......
i have seen some really nice builds with those cars. the other thing
be carefull a lot of electrical problems..
