View Full Version : FPR goes bad? Injectors leak?

What i want to know is does the OEM FPR some how wear out? I understand a generic regulator uses a spring inside. with the OEM FPR on SR20s, they are vac actuated, however im not sure if there is anything else in it. I'm having a problem with my car running rich. I do have a Walbro fuel pump, and from what i understand, having one of these will raise the fuel pressure. Will that some how put additional wear on the OEM FPR unit? I've always thought i been struggling with boost leak issues but after realizing my intercooler system is dead solid, it has to be either an injector problem or FPR problem... my next guess would be a leaky injector.

any insight?

Bumping this because I have the same question. Is it a feasible possibility for a 255lph pump to overrun the stock FPR and cause higher fuel pressure and a rich air/fuel mixture?

buy a fuel pressure gauge and see if the fuel pressure is still at 34 psi with the vacuum hooked up and 43 psi with the vacuum disconected.

bump. im having problems with a sohc ka with a walbro pump and im thinking this is the issue.

Like RedtopTech said first you need to be able to know what fuel psi you have then you can work from there, but generally when installing a 255lph fuel psi does tend to raise the fpr, if it is a nismo AFPR would be in order.

***I wouldn't calling it wearing out the FPR either, the reason for the over running of the stock fpr is because you are running a large fuel pump with no fuel pump controller to give the pump less voltage at idle and cruise situations. The stock Z32 TT pump can also over work the stock fpr if it didn't have a fuel pressure control module (FPCM).

The OEM FPR for an SR is completely different from any other USDM vehicle. They are not interchangeable with KA's or SR20DE's.... The stock fuel pressure for SR is 50psi for unplugged vac and 43.5 or 43 with vac on for SR. 43, 34 I think is for KA which is different.... I have heard stock FPR's going out, but nothing really confirmed.

Quit giving false information, nothing is special about the JDM SR FPR, specs should be 43psi no vaccum and ~36psi with vaccum.

I had a walbro on my s14 with oem fpr for a long time without issues. But yea, if the pressure is off it will mess with the engine. I'll sell you my stock one which I know worked well if you want haha. PM if interested.

Nope just looked it up at the SR manual page 152, look it up before bsing other people.... Exact words are "The pressure regulator maintains the fuel pressure at 299.1 KPA (2.991 bar, 3.05 kg/cm^2, 43.4 psi)." The SR FPR is different from any other car and are NOT interchangeable. You can check other SR posts from other members... So before you get off on people. Check your facts....

I don't know wtf "SR manual" you are looking in, but mine (as does everyone elses) says 36 psi with vacuum connected and 43 psi without vacuum. Please don't give out bad information.

What a rock! No shit you just owned yourself. The reason it can't interchage would only be because it wouldn't fit another chassis because the bend and mounting are most likely different from car to car duh! But your SR fpr is not special.

Not if your O-rings are properly installed.

Wait, okay Steve, so you're saying that a higher rate fuel pump doesn't increase the fuel pressure off the stock FPR? As long as your o-rings aren't leaking you're pressure is good?

Based on my experiences with the OE FPR, A walbro 255lph, and the KADE engine I was running a much higher fuel pressure (can't remember exact readings) with and without vacuum. But I wasn't getting any fuel, injector, or mixture error codes from the ECU (S14).

Can you elaborate? Are you just referring to the SR?

No, Check yours. The CA/KA/SR/RB FPR is interchangeable. Only Issue is that a Nismo Adjustable will hit the S14SR's TPS.

Back to the OP's problem. The walbro puts out 255lph @ 50psi. This is to much for the old stock FPR to handle. Get a Nismo FPR and a gauge and dial it back to stock.

Alright I got the pressure tester and got 44 psi with vacuum hooked up at idle. The line burst right before the pressure tester ??
