Hey i'm trying to figure out which id rather go with. My odometer isint working but the speedo is, from everything i've searched i've concluded that i should replace the cluster. Now my question is should I buy a JDM S14 cluster and do the soldier trick where the km/h will read in mph.... OR should i buy an aftermarket spedometer and somehow figure out how to integrate a junkyard odometer or maby attempt to fix my current one.
All that being said, the reason i ask is how accurate is the OEM gauge over 100 mph. I've always heard their WAY off, which may have been some domestic bullshit or maby someone who didnt know shit told me that along time ago and it just stuck in my head. Either way i'd like something thats relatively accurate at higher speeds, but also is somewhat simple to install and aquire. I have a JDM cluster lined up but the dude wants too much for it IMO. So i'm looking into aftermarket speedo's but havent found anything that fits just right yet.
Any suggestions, comments, or help is greatly appreciated. thanks!

why don't you just go buy a junkyard cluster?

well i would but it says clearly in my post i want something that goes over 100 mph, the OEM S14 only says 120 and i question its accuracy at the limit of its measurement. I want something that will go to 160 or so-- Accurately--

with a ROM tune, you can set your limit as high as you want. although i don't recommend doing the tune for that sole reason, it's still an option. 160 MPH on SR20 = red line in fifth gear. be careful not to destroy your motor or tranny. yes i know how cheap the motors are, but that's still a couple grand out of your pocket because you just want to go faster.

yea thats why i want to go "up to" 160. I was also thinking about gearing in the future. Or maby an S15 or VQ 6 speed. Either way My SR right now is pushing 410 RWHP so i know its gear limited in terms of top speed- But i'd still like something accurate to the limit. Anyone have any suggestions on an aftermarket solution?

so EVERYBODY is using a stock speedometer...........

uh, yeah. again, it's a 240sx, not a spaceship. it's never going to go as fast as you think it might, and even if it did, you'd never be able to maintain that speed long enough to justify having a speedometer for it. why would you even care?
you'd blow your engine trying to get UP to that speed, never mind redlining it. crawling through 6-7k for the like five minutes it would take to hit redline in fifth gear would do enough damage. we don't drive ferraris, we don't have an autobahn, you don't need a speedometer that reads higher than 100.

Haha. OP is epic fail.
If something is wrong with your cluster buy another one with similar mileage to your current one.
No, you don't need that jdmbullshit. It's fucking pointless to have a kph readout just to think you're the shit when you're not.
Most all 240's have stock guages. Why? Because the tack fucking works; the rest is shit, but that's what you have aftermarket for.
If you want to switch it up, be my guest.
Lets be honest. You're a fucking rice boy who races around on the freeway thinking you're the shit. Because on the TRACK where you SHOULD be driving , chances are you won't hit speeds anywhere near that.
Wait a minute. Who the fuck needs a speedo anyways? You can tell how fast you're going based off of the tach.
Ugh.
You fail at life.
your best bet is a good GPS. 100% accurate

would have to beg to differ with that one hace a s14 sr and def have done at least 150 for a long period of time and still had not come close to hit red line

well, since noone exactly answered yet, i'll take a swing.
autometer has a full line of autogauges, like they have differents eries. like the cobalt series adn the phantom series. i've owned a few autometer phantom gauges and they're nice and clean. you can adapt and/or calibrate the speedo gauge to work with whatev you have, and you can get one to work with your tach. with your odo, somethign's probably unplugged or dirty, or those gears are stuck, u might want to fix that, that will prob raise some flags with inspections.
but i'll bet you can rape your current cluster, make a nice bezel and stick some autometer gauges in there, but that would prob end up being more expensive than even a JDM cluster. so really, go to a junkard, check ebay, check for sale sections of forums.

Well maby YOUR little 240 "crawls" up to redline in 5th, but MINE is running alot more power than im sure you are, plus with my routes i can cruise comfortably at "120-130" {again, accuracy?} on my way to work. Maby the roads in your town are ghey, but i have some nice flat smooth long roads here-and the suspension/brakes to back it up.

If you knew 2 things about the JDM gauge, you'd know that with a few different soldering points you can turn it into MPH
"Most all 240's have stock gauges. Why? Because the tack fucking works; the rest is shit, but that's what you have aftermarket for."
Uhh, no shit... THAT WAS THE FUCKING QUESTION. "What aftermarket solutions do i have" fucking dumbass, you and Koukimonster need to do what the quote in his avatar says. Stay out of my post if you cant offer any intelligent ANSWERS to my questions, thats what the tech talk forum is for, if you wanna bitch do it on the chat section.
unicoladron- Thanks for the input, i was considering that but i've decided because of costs, and my need for a roll cage i'm going the cheaper route and re-soldering a JDM cluster.

So let me get this straight.
You Spend MORE money on a jdm cluster. Just to make it act just like a usdm cluster.
lol.
You've yet to say why it necessitates needing an aftermarket cluster other than, "I want to go hella nascar and wangan my ass down public freeways".
