I'm questioning the quality of this build/engine. I haven't had the car running for more than a few days at a time and it's not reliable at all. The car is a 95 Sr20 240sx I had a local shop with a great reputation put the engine in. So many things have gone wrong with it. Well my car wouldn't start from a stand still it would try to turn over but it would never actually fire up. I could hear the pump the fan everything just wouldn't fire up. So I bought some new spark plugs, well that didn't work so I read on here to give the start a few taps with a hammer. I did that now it won't even try to turn over I turn the key and nothing. Is it safe to assume that it's the starter? I looked on a website and a new starter is like 600 bucks that's not something I really want to buy. Is there another option? Sorry if this post is vague.

Have the starter rebuilt. Had mine done last year for around $125-ish. From what the tech said the internals of an sr-det starter share some of the same internals as the sr20de combined with another nissan (cant' remember sorry).

Well if you wanna test the starter, give the starter 12volts at the little male terminal on the solenoid and that will "JumpStart" the starter if you et nothi then the solendiod is fried

did you just take it to a regular mechanic or like a tuner shop?

I took it to a place that specialized in rebuilding starters, alternators, and AC compressors. Its called Riverside Alternators & Starters and their phone # is (951)354-2375. I know you're in a different state but if you can't find a place in your area give them a call, maybe they can have you ship it out to them to have it rebuilt. When I took it to them I was a little worried since it was a jdm unit but he actually asked me first if it was for the de or det engine, which suprised me.

Any weird noises? did you get to test your spark plugs for spark when it was turning? Getting any spark at all? Have you tried to push start it?

it will start when pushed, yes. There are no weird noises.

That's a good thing then, just get the started fixed up and you should be set for life :ughd:
