when my car is running at idle i have a ticking noise. i think it might be the timing chain guides any ideas?

usually is timing chain guide. Do you hear the ticking coming from the front of the engine?

^^^What he said... just pull of your valve cover and remove the upper guide, you don't need it, and see if that fixes it.

could be a exhaust leak in ur manifold. mine was loose and i tightened down the bolts and now its gone

which engine? SR's have hydraulic valve lifters that need bleeding occasionally, search for my post about it with some great pics (stolen from JGY I think).

It could be a cracked exhaust manifold, mine made the similar ticking sounds during start ups and after few minutes of driving the ticking was gone (heated up, metal expanded bleh bleh). Took off the manifold, and noticed a nice crack on the weld/flange. Take a look at the Manifold before ripping out the whole top end of the motor. If it is the lifter, then i'd be more worried about your oil pressure.
