It's very hard to understand your post. Are you talking about the front or rear main seal? They're both inexpensive if you do it yourself.

For the coolant it could be air in your system.

Rear Main Seal from the dealership - 17.50
Front Main Seal from the dealership - 6.30

Labor would cost an arm and a leg like always thouigh and no clue about the temperature gauge.

replace your coolant temp sensor. and the main seals are cheap. Doing the rear is going to require you pulling the transmission clutch flywheel etc. I.e tons of labor time if you are having it done. Front you are going to remove the crank pulley with everything around it.
