Finally finished the Defi gauge setup in my 240. I decided to make my own cluster using Defi gauges and then 3 more in the center vent location. I used the green Defi Link gauges with the brand new V.S.D. Concept X heads up display. In the main cluster I used a 80mm tach and boost, along with 52mm EGT and water temp. I gutted the entire OEM cluster leaving only a small black trim section that would frame my gauge plate that houses the Defi's. I also gutted the rear white section of the cluster which clips to the front glass and the black trim left over. I used 1/4" hardboard as my new cluster plate. Flushed in the gauges and retro fitted the turn signals into the plate. I reused the green arrows for the signals and used 1" pvc for bulb housings.
Now for the cool part. Since Defi does not make a speedometer gauge, I decided to go with the HUD for the windshield. I was going to retrofit the Defi HUD module into the OEM HUD pod that I bought off of another member. Figured it would look nice and OEM. Come to find out they discontinued the V.S.D. Concept. So I bought the Concept X instead and molded the module into the top of my steering wheel shroud. It works and looks flawless! I won't go into detail but basically I bondo molded it in and used texture paint on both the top half and bottom half. Then painted it a nice SEM black. Here are a bunch of pics and one of the Concept X HUD the way it comes new.

I was wondering the same thing.
Also I didn't see a fuel level gauge anywhere, how do you know how much fuel you've got left.. I take it this is a track only car (theres no odometer for one thing)
Anyway, Excellent work, you should be proud. I think all of us have considered this at one point or another, but you're one of the first I've seen pull it off so cleanly.

The shroud of the wheel/hub portion is all split open on the side
His dash / cluster setup is so clean, and that kinda just doesn't match

looks good. I probably would have gone with something else besides that hardboard to mount the gauges (high humidity and it can warp). +32767 on skill and attention to detail, really. I didnt click on this thread for days because I am kinda conditioned to seeing a lot of bullshit on the forums, so I try to keep my eyes closed more than open.
But, I must admit.. absolute beautiful work. For the speedo/rpms, I personally prefer something more static that I can see day, night, shadow, shade. While it looks plenty visible from the pics, i still cant say I would want a setup like that for one of my own personal cars - but regardless, its built for you, not me - and it looks very pretty. I just happen to prefer analog, thats all.
The steering wheel is fine, understated.. good. Its been said before, there are too many fanboys here that just jock products that are HOT because these guys have just joined the scene and think something is new and awesome. Reality is, its a wheel.. it works. Big fucking deal. Everyone wants Nardi with a quick release, as if that shit is going to make a difference in life.. it wont. MOMO wheels are great, well.. they're classic wheels are great. Some of their newer fanboy shit sucks, but then again.. so does being a fanboy.
I really hate your seats though, thats the only part of your car that makes me puke. :-)
cheers,

does anyone here actually have r34 seats?
does anyone here actually have experience with both, r32/r33 seats AND r34 seats?
i've always been eyeballing the r34 seats, especially since they look so pretty.. but the thing is, the r32 seats for me, have always been perfect.
i'm wondering whether or not the r34 seats actually offer something, other than nice looks. the obvious thing i've noticed is the harness loops, but other than that.. i think the R32 seats are really perfect (for me atleast).

unholyfd3s> arent R32 seats the same thing as S14 seats
yeah.. ABSOLUTELY NOT. ;-) R32 seats RULE, while S14 seats rule nothing.
I've always loved how compact and unflashy the R32 seats are, they are super snug seats and I'm 5'8" so its a perfect fit. larger fat americans should consider another seat though.
anyway, i was just curious if anyone had experience with BOTH seats. the r34's are nice, but cost an arm'n'leg.. always curious if they're worth it.
word is r32 seats sit you an inch or two higher than a s13/s14 seat would? ive always been interested in them, but im 6'3. ill prob have to look into getting a bride low max and bolting it to the floor. haha.
s14 seats are better than s13 ones. but id def like to start looking into a bucket.

i dont agree. i never noticed sitting higher in the r32 seats.
remember, most of these s13 seats are pretty ratty and fucking NEGLECTED. I wouldnt be surprised if the foam is completely fucked on the majority of people's cars. i mean, everytime i sit in oem s13 seats.. i need to get my back cracked. literally, those are the worst seats ive ever had the luxury of owning.

I have a similar setup and how did you get the defi HUD to work? Is it just a simple matter of following the directions? (yes i know im retarded and lazy, just humor me)

It plugs into the Defi link controller. Then speedo will wire into the controller for the HUD. You do not have to wire the tach signal into the HUD controller..... it will automatically take the signal from the Defi link controller. This might be different depending on which of he 3 HUD's you have!?!

Were did you get the fuel guage? any pics?
Also where did you get the concept X VSD? I searched and can only find the VSD Concept.
I can get you the Concept X. PM me if you want details. I did not take any pics of the fuel gauge. I think I might redo it, so I will take pics at that time.

Thanks broadfield, I also noticed I have the HUD tach working, but the tach in my cluster stays at 9000. :\
I have the tach signal wired into the link box, and nothing wired to the vsd concept box.
I assume that your HUD and dial gauge tach are working together?

Not of the digital fuel gauge... or at least I missed it.
Only question I've got is why put the EGT guage on the cluster and Oil Pressure on the vent? Perhaps I'm being naive or something but wouldn't oil pressure be more important to monitor?

This would work GREAT with speedhut revolution main cluster gauges. 4" speedo with ODO, Tach, 2 5/8" fuel qty, water temp. Then get a triple A pillar pod

my bad, it was posted in the "Interior Gauge Setups" thread. IIRC, the gauge displays percentage of fuel used. Read the posts following the one below to learn more:
Thank you sir! Yes, the main function of the HUD is for my speedo. It will display in kmh or mph. It will also display any other gauge I have in metric or imperial.
Here is a couple pics of the fuel gauge on and off, and few other with my new wheel and DCC swap.

word is r32 seats sit you an inch or two higher than a s13/s14 seat would?
i dont agree. i never noticed sitting higher in the r32 seats.
If anything I feel lower in my R32's, but that may just be the bucket style making me think im lower.
Not sure in s13 applications, but in my S14 (Sunroof car), I noticed a definate height diffrence (sitting higher) versus stock S14 seats. I'm only 5'8", and with with my G Force Full Face on, I was into the sunroof/couldn't sit properly behind the wheel, where as before I could *just* fit in.
To remedy the situation, I hacked off the left side 'floor mount' and cut some of the right side off. I re drilled the right side, and found a piece of 1/2 steel for the driver side (tapped two spots into it for the seat to attach too, and drilled through the back of the steel piece, and used a bolt to attach it to the car.
When all Said and Done, I gained nearly 2-3" of headspace (mainly due to angleing the seat back) and was able to sit properly in my car for HPDE and everyday driving. In fact, I liked haveing the seat angled lower front to back than stock flat front to back.

the digital climate control was optional in Japan. You can often find them for sale on ebay, though oftentimes the auction does not include everything you need to get the DCC to work. A search should tell you what all is needed to get it to work.

Sorry I haven't answered any of your questions guys. I guess I don't get emailed anymore for this thread?
Anyway, I'll try to answer some of them.
The carpet I got from stockinteriors.com. I had my friend at a custom upholstery shop make my floor mats. One of the reasons I went with custom mats was so they would be molded around the cage. The other reason is all of the ones on-line and E-bay are the biggest POS's.
The panel below the radio is a custom plate I made with a custom pull on it. My control units for my Defi gauges and the one for the HUD are flushed into a pocket behind there. I didn't want to display them, so I made the removable plate to hide them, yet still gain access to them.
As mentioned, those are not my pedals, but I do have the same 350z pedals to put on.... just haven't done it yet. You also have to modify the dead pedal plate..... the 350z one is about twice as tall.
I will have to get pics of the cage where it goes through the rear panels and the carpet. I assure you it looks factory. I used another rear panel to chop up and make a template for the good panels. That way the cage goes through the panel with a perfect cut. This is the only pic I have right now.

I wish I had an interior of the same quality in my car. I know what you mean about ebay mats. I bought a set which I thought were quality. Now the grommet on the drivers side for the pin in the floor ripped out the mat. Also the things shed some lol. The material is not very durable to say the least. I wish supermade or kereotype (spelling?) made lhd sets, and if only I had the money if they did.
I also like how the inserts on your seats are of a different material. I think nothing looks better than leather seats, only thing is imo they're cold in the winter when you first sit in em, and you almost melt in the summer lol. I guess that won't be a problem when you've upholstered them like you did.

Yeah, I am indifferent on the seats. Don't love them, but definitely don't hate them. 99% of the people love them and offer me money for the set. Also, beautiful work.

Hey Toby,
Earlier in the thread (or in another thread, I can't remember) you mentioned that you were able to polish up the face of the DCC. Can you tell us how you did it? What products/technique etc?? All of the DCC's I've seen for sale are a bit rough around the edges and if you could shed the light on some way to clean up with a bit of elbow grease that'd be awesome.
BTW, I love your interior and I'm hoping to take mine to the same level as yours!!

As ninjabread stated, you can use their plastic polish or I use the Meguiars "Paint Cleaner" on all of my clear plastics
I use a back-and-forth motion.... no circular movements.
Do you use a microfiber towel or something else? I will be trying to get the clear plastic in front of my gauge cluster cleaned.

Yep, just a microfiber and I rub pretty hard like if you were using rubbing compound on your car paint. It will work perfect for the gauge cluster. I also use a mini air powered polisher if the surface area is big enough..... gauge cluster, head/tail lights.

How did you get the rest of your interior so clean, all of the interior trim pieces don't have a single scratch on them.
Are you the original owner, or did you get all the parts new form nissan?
EDIT: I just read the answer a few posts above

Still, very clean job. I wasn't expecting to see something NICE.

Thanks David! It was awesome finally getting to hook up with you! I'm sure we'll be in contact a lot now.
I also figured I would post up the pics of my latest interior build.......
As most of you may recall, I use to have an all black leather and suede refinished OEM seats etc. I have wanted a set a Bride Gias for this thing for years now. I finally got a good deal on a set of Gias Mazoria edition. So I had to reupholster the interior around the Gias being the center focal point. As usual, I like fairly low key styling in everything I do, but with a little flash here and there. So in keeping with the standard black Bride material on the seat, along with the Bride Hyper Black material on the cushions, I came up with a nice layout for the rest of the interior.
--Back seat: standard Bride material with Hyper Black center panels.
--Glove box: Hyper Black material
--Armrest: Hyper Black material
--Rear Deck: Hyper Black material
--Door card: inserts Hyper Black material
--Shift boot: Hyper Black material
--Headliner: Not finished yet.... either Hyper Black or a combination of standard black.
I don't have any pictures of the back seat or rear deck yet. It was getting late and it was difficult to get a "good" shot, from a photographer's point of view, of the back seat and deck. The rear deck in Bride fabric happens to be my favorite part of the interior actually:D

Awesome as usual. Are you using a hydraulic parking brake? I can't really tell what you have in the rear. Also, are they white like the fronts? The more I see your cluster, the more I want to enlist your services. Maybe one of these days once i get back to the real world from the "beach". Your work is always an inspiration.

The rear brakes are Z32 with the Z32 e-brake setup. Yes they are white with the raised letters painted black to match the fronts. I made a zinc plating kit and re-plated all of the bolts and hardware for the brakes and rotor hats. Here are some pics I posted on another site about my brake build:
Few pics of the powder coat job and a couple of my electroplating setup.

Also some pics of my finished zinc plating. After the plating, I dipped each piece in either a gold or black chromate to get the final color.
There is also a before shot of a retaining clip too so you can see the difference.

More pics of the hardware I plated gold and black. Then a couple of the calipers reassembled. These were taken before I painted the raised letters on the Z32's black.
The black hardware looks wet because it gets doused with WD40 as a final sealant.
