Dibs on the white one?

rusted180
07-31-2007, 09:06 PM
huh......the white datsun looks sick! i wonder if theres a cult following for this kind of project in US....weight distribution should be crappy compared to our cars, unless im wrong.. i wonder if these trucks would be competitive in a drift competition.

Farzam
07-31-2007, 09:09 PM
Probably not...

Unless you put a bunch of heavy shit in the back.

rusted180
07-31-2007, 09:25 PM
that's gay! but regardless....these pickups look badass! they're so unique! it would just be fun building one and crusing around...i wonder if these would attract pigs like our cars do..

yeah the white one is pretty sick.

with those powerplants, suspension/drivetrain mods, and long wheelbase (most importantly) im sure they drift fine...correct me if im wrong, but im assuming they use weight ballasts too...modding old school pickups is nothing new, just something often overlooked and wrongfully riduculed...e.g. the poster above me =)

Damn i love those old school pickups. I would love to have an old toyota pickup and drop a 2jzgte in one. But moneys a bitch.

I was actually thinking about selling my 240 for an old datsun pickup in damn near mint condition with a nitrous'd ka24de in it. I didnt though. Maybe I should have... eh, i like my car too much.

i've always wanted to do something to my nissan pickup, but i keep spending money on my s chasis. Anyways anyone know what you do about the wiring? The wiring on the truck is all like 1 harness.

Real quick, sorry to thread jack, but do the japanese write alot there magazines like comics, or is it the "theme" i guess, of that article? Just curious.

And about the wiring, im sure if you dropped an sr in a truck, if you know wiring, it wouldnt be too hard. I mean, if you completely strip an s chassis of wires in the engine compartment to do a swap then rewire it, im sure thats about the same for a truck.

07-31-2007, 10:18 PM
Yah if you look at the build closely, those trucks are heavily modified for the motors. Like the white truck, the exhaust comes out on top of the bed. THere is heavy bracing from the front of the bed all the way back to the edge of the truck. I don't think I its too hard, but just time consuming.

omg i think i might be fully erect. i've always wanted a pickup but never really had the funds. after i graduate first thing i'm buyin is gonna be a 90's hardbody or a 76 datsun 620. not everyones cup of tea but its all good though cause i could care less.

i personally like how the japanese setup their layouts....especially Doritin mags. i think it's almost artistic.... kind of messy and very bold...but pleasing to the eye...just my opinion.

Are the rear wheel drive hardbodies 5 lug from the factory? The awd ones are 6 lug right? I wanna build one up... my friends showed me that magazine the other week. What kind of suspension work goes into something like that... must be alot of custom work. I like the even older Datsun trucks...

There is a drift truck in the NOPI series competing with a 4g63 it can be seen at thedrifttruck.com. He's promoting the whiplash DVD's and now I guess I am too haha. Oh well its a sweet truck none the less. They have the truck setup so the ass end is lower than the front to try and get at least some weight on the back tires to produce some smoke. The truck rocks flame throwing stacks, its pretty badass.

Are the rear wheel drive hardbodies 5 lug from the factory? The awd ones are 6 lug right?

No, they're all 6-lug. Some guys with mini-trucks redrill the hubs and axles to 5-lug though. I've had my fair share of mini-trucks. I guess I had to since I worked for Mini Truckin' Magazine. haha

Not exactly the same as what was posted before, but here are some of my old trucks:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/ramblux/hilux.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/ramblux/Toyota2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/ramblux/trukandframe1.jpg

The first one would do 130mph no problem. haha
I never finished the third one, but it had a turbo 12a rotary. That engine did mid 11s N/A in a '80 RX-7, so it woulda been hella fast.

And a friend of mine is putting an SR20DET into this:

that dude did..
the trucks look kinda cool.. not my taste, but i can respect their builds and stuff. There is a dude here locally building a old RPU. A RWD pickup that came factory from mazda with a rotary. He is puttin the 466rwhp motor that came out of his 93 fd into the bitch, and rollin stock body, dropped 2 inches. Kinda goin for that sleeper look.

The problem with old Datsun trucks is that there's a lot of fab work to get a DET to fit. My brother and I are doing either a sr20de or ka swap into his old 521 mini, build thread will follow!
