My FSM shows the wire harness having a number of different available plugs for the gauge cluster, including ones for both analog and HUD. Is this correct? Did the S13 wire harness come with both types of plugs....and then just used the ones to match the cluster type? If so, it's a direct plug in....correct?
Also....what would be involved for me to roll back (or forward in my case) the odometer to match the HUD mileage to the mileage currently on my Analog? Will the Nissan dealership do this for me (even to roll it forward?). If not, where can I hook up a drill to do it myself? Which cable would I hook it to?
Thanks,

as far as I know tampering with the odometer is illegal as heck but that may just be in cali

Yeah I know its technically illegal....but if your odometer broke, and you had to have Nissan replace it....they'd have to set the mileage to match the old broken peice (as close as they could anyways). So...it can be done.
So my question is how to do it.

I will now answer ALL your questions. And yes, I know everything and I'm always right so you can read this post and then go on about your business.
First. The HUD and non-HUD harness does NOT match up and they do NOT have both plugs. You have to get the piece of dash harness to go between the plug over by the ECU and the cluster. Boooo.
Second. When you get a new odometer, that is recorded with the state your car is titled/registered in and they restart it at ZERO.
Third. You CAN dismantle the odometer and hook it up to a drill (I did this). But with my 900 rpm Makita, after 20 minutes of whirling away at the little gear, it had only taken off ~5500 miles, so I decided to forget it. I was hoping to roll it back and then sell it to a SOHC owner who wanted to cheat the system. Hey, not all people make/want an honest buck, right? I thought I could help them out. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
Anyway, there you go.
Converting to HUD sucks. Don't do it. I have it on mine because it came stock. Otherwise it's totally not worth the hassle.

Everyone I know who has HUD wishes they had analog. My hud went out a couple of years ago, and the speedometer followed shortly after. There are too many problems associated with that display. If you do it, you'll wish you still had the analog guages.
As for the roll back, the most difficult part is getting the guage cluster out of the dash. I used a drill with a wire wheel and it flew back (took off about 16k). I was only doing it because I had planned to buy a warranty, but I never came up with the cash
If you want a digital display someone has an apexi for sale on this board.
I also forgot to mention; if you ever need to replace the windshield, forget it. List price is $2800 - and most glass places charge anywhere from 50-75% of that. I'll be buying the standard windshield.

1. I agree that I wish I had the analog as well. Shoot I went and bought an analog thinking I could just swap them out.
2. I looked at the Apexi unit but was only able to find it with a KPH readout. I opted for the Techtom unit which reads both as well as all of the sensors connected to the ECU.
3. I'd do the same especially seeing that my HUD is poo.
