and i get clunking from the diff when i'm OUT of gear in neutral.

the clunking is not severe as if i were in gear going around in circles, but its still somewhat of a clunking. it doesn't shake my whole subframe but it does make a very slight sound like an extra toned down clunking. i have a ACT stage 2 clutch btw.

i had the nismo 80W90 in before and there was no clunking of this nature before. got the diff new and it performed with no complaints. it still locks and the tires still chirp when i do circles tho.

is this normal?
ps: i have 75W90 Redline NS fluid in now.

its a lsd clutch
its gonna make noise
if u dont like it...wellthen....u shouldnt put track parts on street cars.

its part of life w/ a 2 way clutch LSD.
get used to it! because its not going to go away.

^^ thats one of the fastest responses i have ever gotten lol

i love the clunking don't get me wrong, but its supposed to clunk when i'm OUT of gear. in neutral when doing a turn going 2km/hr? i've never read anything like that before.

if its normal, i'll embrace it with open arms thats for sure!

It'll clunk whenever the hell it wants. My Tomei was so unpredictable, I'd be driving to work and it'd be quiet as a dead ferret, then at the end of my drive when I'm pulling into my parking spot *CLUNK KA KA CLUNK KA CLUNK*

It's probably fine

its off throttle
the lsd is trying to keep the wheels turning at same speed
and it cant so it locks unlocks...clunks

so its normal
i clunk in reverse turning
slowing down turning

clunk and chirp on all turns except when going on the track fast

low speeds it will clunk.
enjoy it.

think of it this way

you can HEAR that (estimated) 800 dollars being spent haha
every clunk...is a few pennies.

^^ hahahahaha awesome response!

ya it only clunks doing right hand turns out of gear. doesn't do it on the left hand turns out of gear.

i wanted to try 80w140 or 85w140 but it was outta stock.

does the higher viscosity fluid play the same role as having a larger aftermarket differential cover? doesn't overheat the fluids and doesn't break down as fast or something?

Don't bother using heavier oils. I used recommended 75w90 and never had any issues with my Tomei . Full day at the track and a 1.5 hour drive home and it was fine in 100 degree weather.

dousan and to all other redline users.

do you guys use the NS version or the normal?

NS version means no additive (better and harsher engagement?)

additive quiets it down and smoother/lighter engagement?

hrmmm can someone explain what a friction modifer does?

i'm thinking about it now and i'm confused.

ppl put in friction modifier to quiet down the diff, but everyone says the bad thing is you don't get a strong engagement.

BUT, if its quieter, it could also mean the diff is STAYING locked or staying completely unlocked. could be either or.

driving with the redline NS now compared to my nismo oil, the nismo oil made less noise but more chirping. i am assuming it was staying locked 100% of the time since hardly any clunking and the chirping happened sooner (lower speeds) and was also louder then now.

is it because the nismo oil has friction modifier in it? probably. if so, wtf?

i thought friction modifier prevented from HARD engagement because it helps the clutches slip and reduces wear etc etc.

i'm confused, can someone explain this to me?
