My A/C does not work anymore.  It blows hot air and the A/C light on the switch does not light up.  Fuses are okay.

1. What could cause this (relay, compressor, leak)?  How can I check it?

I thought of getting rid of it...

2. What's the weight I can save?
3. What the cost to remove it?
4. What is it worth if I sell it afterwards?

Yes, I do believe it's somewhere around 40lbs as well.

If you want to salvage it though, it probably just needs a recharge, take it to your dealer, it shouldn't be that expensive.

**Edit** It would probably cost more to remove it than it would to recharge it. **Edit**

having removed my AC I can tell you alot. The AC compressor, empty, weighs in at 18 lbs. The condensor gets another 10 and the condensor core (inside the car) is about 10. These are all empty wieghts too. Thats not counting all the piping and catch containers, plus the freon. As far as selling it, I just sold my compressor on ebay for 30 and the core I sold for 40 shipped. You dont get much for it but it does relieve strain on the engine, its one less belt, a cleaner looking under the hood, and less wieght. Im from central cali and I dont miss my AC any. You can take your AC out yourself its not hard. Its worth it I think.

Actually, a recharge is expensive because it does not follow the freons standards to date.  It has to be upgraded and it's pretty expensive.

Thanks for your answers, it's appreciated.

DarkRaptor, How did you go around and remove it?  Is it hard?  Do you need a lift?

Well since Im a poor college student and try to get as much bang as possible for my buck, I just undid the first screw on the freon catch can (with protective googles and a face mask) and ran to the other side of the garage while it depressurized. You can take everything out while the car is on the ground. no need to lift. The only things I found hard to do where removing the condensor in front ( have to remove radiator) and the rear (have to remove golve box) everything else pretty much just comes out when you undo the screws. As for just venting the freon, dont do it like I did. My car wasnt running so I couldnt take it to have a shop do it. Its not good to let that stuff out into the air but most of the time the cars so old, its mostly gone already anyways. if you need anything else answered just email me
