View Full Version : 4 piston brakes - 26mm vs. 30mm

Pardon my noob question but I know nothing about Nissan's.

I'm looking for the 26mm 4 piston aluminum brake calipers. I think I read somewhere that the 26mm were on the NA 300zx and the 30mm were on the turbo 300zx. Is this true? What years does it apply to? It seems like all of the ones on Ebay say 30mm no matter what car they are off of.

I've spent 2 nights searching around trying to get a real answer but couldn't find it. Please Nissan experts, help me find the right calipers so I can retro fit them to my WRX.

Thanks,
Josh

i think it was early year z32. i forgot as it has been a long time and haven't retainted the information.

try importnuts guide.. asad, a mod on freshalloy, also made a detail post on z32 brakes years ago with pictures, description, and everything. try to find it in best of 240 on fa.

aren't there much better options that would fit directly onto a WRX?

brakes from a JDM wrx, or STi brembos, or the new red brembos from the WRX TR (or is the bolt pattern off?)

Awesome!!! That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

The subaru 4 piston fronts usually cost about $400 used. Add powder coating and a rebuild and they are around $500. And they are iron.

The Nissan ones are selling for like $150 on Ebay. I can grind the Nissan off, powder coat them, rebuild them and make brackets for under $400. The aluminum 26mm will fit with stock WRX 24mm rotors too. :)

Thanks for the help guys!

Interesting...I never knew the rotors worked. The down side is you're getting a bigger caliper but a no bigger rotor, so any braking power advantage isn't gonna be that much, and there's no added cooling (except having a larger pad?). So you're saving some green i suppose by doing the custom work, but i still don't think the payoff is gonna be worth it. I commend you for doing the research and work yourself though

Also, what are you doing for the rears and MC?

frpilot:
there's little point in getting the STi brembos; if you want brembos just get some 350z ones. Virtually the same caliper but easier to fit (drill out holes).

Ok, i think i should start seperate thread, but may be someone know can throw me a link, i am looking for a brembo upgrade for a 4 bolt, which way is going to be easier:
- Sentra SpecV
- Subaru STi (those rotors are 5 bolts, but 6pistons)
- What else?

first, search on the sentra brakes

second, why are you limiting yourself to brembo? 4 lug brake upgrade has been discussed many times

So maybe I am retarded, but I have never seen a stock 6 piston STi Brembo. They are a large 4 pot just like the EVO.

If you want to do a brake upgrade on a 4 lug, just do a Z32 upgrade and drill the rotors to 4 lug. Done and done... probably cheaper too.

or q45 calipers which i hear alot of people like better.

^^^Probably what I'm gonna go with. IIRC the Q45 calipers have slightly less issues with wheel clearence for smaller wheel sizes.

See guys i am an Altima fan! Altima and 240 share front brakes (if 240s are 4 bolts) so Sentra SpecV is direct drop in!

Subaru STi, my bad i always thought that they are 6 pistons, they are 4 but very f.. big, so my qestion is how difficult to drill rotors (where to send them or to go with them) to drill for 4 bolt pattern, and how difficult to manufacture holding bracket for caliper!????

I am in a Calgary guys and this city is pretty small!

I heard you can use evo rotors. Thats much easier if it works.

i saw a post somewhere of a guy running evo calipers.
