I just used the search button and found nada.. so if im wrong :lockd:
I am picking up a 91 auto q45 for a project..cefi emblems etc.. but the engine.. i refuse to go rb20.. and want to do an SR 5speed in it..now if any of you have done it .. is there major problems i will be facing ..fire wall, mounts, wiring etc..would i have to use a stand alone system.? one thing im concerned about is if the cars weight is too much stress on the motor, i know the rb20 and the sr20 are both 200hp, but since the sr is only a four banger is it too much stress on it..? is it worth it.. i would imagine so, but would like some opinions/info on some one who is knowledgable to this swap...
thanks for the help

i would think that it would be too much stress kinda like buying a full size pickup in the v6 model rather than the v8 it might work but not properly

motor, tranny mounts will be the biggest fab work
why would u have to use a stand alone? do u know ANYTHING about engine swaps?
eithre way sounds like a real waste of time andmoney
q45 is big heavy and heavy..and heavy
i used to have one.
keep it stock and blowing super cold AC.maybe some JICs or something
oh yeah suspension shit is $$$ w/ the q. and parts are harder to find (susp arms)

More like stress on your turbo, that little thing would be pegged while trying to chug through a pre-K school parking lot. SR:Q = bad idea. Why not go in between SR and RB20 and go RB25? But again, you don't sound like you know enough to tackle this kind of project, sorry.
91 Q45 was a President and not a Cefiro or whatever..
that V8 makes plenty of power... Why the fuck would you want to swap in a 200hp stock turbo 4cyl that was never built to handle the weight?
that V8 was labled 285hp under the gentlemen rule, But really puts out about 260ish to the wheels. Seriously making an adapter plate to make that engine 5speed or 6speed will be better money spent.
BTW, RB25DET q45 is really good

your right i dont have enough knowledge for this swap.. i will be assisted by some one who has more experience..Thats how i learn.. rather than fucking something good up by thinking i know how.
so what if nice turbo upgrade..? a super t70 perhaps.. ? would that compensate?

yeah, the v8 will be much better than sticking a small displacement motor, you'll need torque and in the really low rpm just to get the car moving....
i'd put in something large and beefy like the ls engine, that'd be sweet...

SR will be cool for the show thing.
The car will be slower.
I got in trouble in a stock Q45. They are pretty fast for a stock car.
The Adapter for a z32 manual gearbox is readily available. That would be the way to go.
If you really want the SR, dont even wire it up. Just tow it to car shows, and show it, and pose next to it, and make sure to have the honies dripping off of it.
Oh wait, its a 91... so yeah, just dont do it.
That Z32 gearbox adapter IS NOT readily available, and will run about $800.
Have a competent shop build you an adapter plate, and you will be fine.

That aussie isnt making them anymore?
It wasn't the Aussies, it was the Brits...
it was 300GBP which is about 700 so fuck that... + shipping
but seriously an adapter plate is not that hard to make

I thought there was the aussie that was banging them out for the q45 in the z32 deal, friend with the q linked me to it like a year ago. If you want something real bad from the UK like soon, let me know, sister is leaving in 3 weeks, and she can just pack it into her check'd luggage on the way back.

I like the idea of a Z32 manual tranny and a couple of turbos... much cheaper than any swap and plenty of replacement motors available...

Do a VG30DETT
you know how I know you've never had a car with a VG?
LOL! the engine bay is way huge in the Q45, doing a VG30DETT swap would not be bad. I was going to do that before i found some one making adapter plates, then i was just going to twin turbo the v8 but then i decided to do a vq35de swap into my 240 instead. If i ever come up with like.... 20k i'll build a bolla ass Q45... but that will never happen.

honestly I've been contimplating a Q45 build myself. I robbed the front brakes off one for my 240, and noticed that the engine bay looks so similar, so I would say the mounts would not be that bad if you had to custom make.
I agree however that the SR would not be that great. I notice a difference in my SR powered S14 every time I do anything, like adding stereo system, bigger wheels... of course mine is bone stock though.
Still, if the V8 is good, then modify a z32 manual tranny and go with it. If not, then consider an RB25, or another VH45. Go to the Ride of the Month page on NICO (not to plug another forum, I'm not really loyal to any). There is an RB25 powered Q on there, email that guy.
Anybody disagrees, speak up, I'd really like to see where this goes because I really want to build a Q45 one day...
