Just posting this incase it may help someone out. I decided a month or so back it was time to work on cooling the car down. Okinawa is hot and humid as hell, and this summer is insane.

With all Stock Cooling components, Coolant mixture was 50/50. My car cruised around at about 80 degrees.

I added a Koyo Twin Core Copper, Billion Hoses, and Nismo Thermostat, kept coolant mixture at 50/50 and my temps dropped to 73 Cruising around, plus a few if getting on it.

Today I switched my coolant mixture for 70 Distilled Water, 20 Coolant, and 10 Redline Water Wetter. My cruising around Temps are now 70 Degrees.

Koyo Twin Copper
Billion Hoses
Nismo Thermostat
70% Distilled Water/20% Cooolant/10% Water Wetter
Stock Fan and Shroud
FMIC

This is at 1300 in high heat. I am happy with the 3 Degrees difference my water wetter mixture produced.

cut open thermostat for coolant

on the track lap after lap after lap of drifting around 5-7k rpm on the HTM track at 110 degree weather..
90 c at max.
maybe 95 depending..

but average during the last event was 76-85C after about.mmm 30 min run sessions non stop

- S15 rad w/ stock hoses
- 50/50 water/coolant mix
- Stock fan
- Stock thermo

Simple setup for daily. Just keep the system clean with a good flush every couple months. No complaints here.

Hey dousan, you ever have to worry about dry start since you have all those extra plumbing for the oil cooler? And also, did your oil pressure drop a bit with the oil cooler? Stock pump too right?

Dousan_PG
07-25-2007, 01:17 AM
new stokc pump, yes

no i never worry

it has never had a problem.
it usually takes a crank or two anyways to get the car going
i honestly dont even think about it
after rebuilding the engine i dont ever think twice about it. i know it was done right and it runs like a champ always

here's the setup, its not super crzy plumbing

i run a ridiculously large oil filter. and i hcnage it like once every 6 months if that
hahaha
its a track car only.
oil changed every other event.

Oil cooler makes a huge difference. The one issue the SR has is retaining heat through the oil and too much of it displaced over a large surface area while running. When you add the cooler you add the lines too and the filter making for more oil capacity. This gives the oil more time to cool off just because of the increased capacity.

When you add something like this, you just fill until the dipstick is full, then crank it up for about 20 seconds, shut it off, add more, repeat until you can idle it for a good couple min's, and it will settle well on the dipstick. You will never have a dry start because the pan will always remain as full as before.

The MKIV Supra Oil filter adapter (remote) is probably the best to use. Just getting the sandwich plate is kinda ghetto, gotta go all out and relocate! What kind of oil cooler did you get dousan?

Dousan_PG
07-25-2007, 01:32 AM
i use a Tomei engine block thing
summit racing oil relocate unit
setrab cooler
w/ aeroquip an lines and stuffs
its all -10

07-25-2007, 01:35 AM
-10 is where its at, I have a new PWR 10 row cooler showing up tomorrow (trashing the baker one)

how many quarts or liters oil do you guys end up using when changing your oil and filter?

Dousan_PG
07-25-2007, 01:53 AM
6 or 7
i think like 6 last time
ill find out again this saturday
i always jsut buy cases of oil
only change every few events
maybe every 2-4 events
deepnds on the event/temp, driving
comps ill wait
practice depending how much seat time may or may not

temp in summer i change more then winter.

but overall if u think about it, im only putting like maybe 100some miles on the engine at an event. cant be mroe then 300 really for sure.

espeically drift events, compared w/ open track.

johngriff
07-25-2007, 01:55 AM
Sometimes it can be as much as 6. Stock turbo 911's run about 9 quarts with their huge cooler/res setups. Diablos about 12, but that is also a 12cyl engine.

Probably end up just about 5.2-5.5 with an average -10 setup.

Dousan_PG

oh yeah greddy pan doesnt help either haha
that fucker is thirsty!!

I have five in mine and the dip stick looks good, but sometimes I feels the oil cooler after a drive and its not hot, like its not circulating properly. ill try adding another liter.

johngriff

You can put an adapter fitting in-between the -10 line and -10 cooler, and connect an oil pressure gauge. That will assure that you are getting good pressure, ESPECIALLY for a track car, its worth the $40 test.

EDIT** how many rows is your cooler? I almost went for the 15..

boozels
07-25-2007, 02:09 AM
I have a oil pres gauge and the pressure is good
Its a 19 row iirc

johngriff
07-25-2007, 02:11 AM
no no, move it right at the cooler, you'll know for sure if your filling/moving it. Damn HUGE coolers! Maybe you are low.

I'm going an SR swap on my car this coming weekend. I'm out in Arizona so cooling is hellava issue. My friend's SR has a Koyo and flex-a-lites with a nismo thermostat and it runs kinda hot. What do you think about running no thermostat? Also any opinions about the 150$ oil coolers on ebay? Thanks.

Stick with the clutch fan bro, many people tell me that. Running without a thermostat will just take longer to warm the car up...but cant you just put holes in the thermostat for flow?

Hey how is the FC oil cooler in comparison to a 19 row earls or somethink like that?

Yeah I think im gonna get a Freddy Oil pan next...

DONT
its a pos

the knock off sucks
and its your oil pan.
i mean seriously
its SLIGHTLY important. just a bit.

Supposedly it seeps where the casts are supposed to be bonded together, the freddy pan is no ones friend.

Dont cheap out on the Oil COOLER! MSRP from me on the PWR is $150, and thats an expensive aluminum from Australia. Dont get used stuff for cooling, its just not.... errr.. cool.

I dont like the "no thermostat" idea, because it really really really drops cooling system pressure, which will allow more pockets of air to exist in the system, and high rev'd sr's allready have the issue of creating air because of the flawed waterpump.

If you fill the cooling system correctly, and bleed the air from system, it should run really well with two 10inch fans, you will be fine.

Not supposedly. It does seep. Seen it first hand on a car I bought to part out. Freddy stuff is trash. I have a real greddy oil pan and I have no regrets spending all that money on it.

That's why you get a yashio water pump pulley. Aaron and I both have them and it kicks ass. I don't bleed my coolant nearly as much as I use to.

yeha im about to start this shit on the RB.
its running insanely hot, not liek water temp wise, but the engine is just hot as shit
it might be the no heat sheild on the turbo or something?

I need to install my damn gauges

Do any you guys have a problem with your tranny getting warm? After a good hard drive for me, my transmission seems to give off a lot of heat, so noticeable it comes into the cabin and my right hand and leg can feel the heat. Is this normal? I don't need a tranny cooler do i?

Dousan_PG
07-25-2007, 09:33 PM
of course tranny gets hot
that why u should always use quality fluid on the trans to keep it together

ive had the same trans for 3 years
using redline mt90 since forever
same w/ my ka
and its in scooters car now

trans cooler..mmm if i did open track event (grip) id go for it

right now using RPS clutch
got the ORC dying to go in next
hehe

but its cool.

yes avoid freddy. get the real deal!

I don't have any issues with my car getting hot, in traffic, normal driving, road racing, or anything

Setup (pretty simple if you ask me)

Koyo Alum Rad
Upper Ebay Cooling Plate
All lower plastic paneling
Altima Dual Fans (I run only one for most of the time, set it to come on full speed at 180....I plug in the other one for HPDE days to run full time)
Stock Hoses
Autometer Water temp Gauge in my CS Probe housing (on drivers side, between head and outlet pipe)
Greddy Oil Pan
70/30 Coolant to Water Mix

On this last track day I peaked at 212 once, with an average of 187. It was probably 85ish outside, slightly humid....

Couple of Q's

So the Yashio rotates at a lower rpm?(basically a larger pulley?)

Coolant catch can help any to give reason to grab one?

Thoughts on running thicker oil... I heard mixed messages.

Havent seen anyone with one of these but... aftermarket thermostat outlet housing.. worth it? looks like it will flow better than stock and is pre-tapped for a temp sensor(see image)

waste of money
dril and tap ur stock one

DONE. cost: 10 mins of time.

While I have the tools available, I also had this piece from Custom Steel, a FWD Sr20 CNC man. www.customsteel.com/sr20

http://www.e-rak.com/cody/albums/album08/P10100361.sized.jpg

For the cost of this piece (mad cheap) it's a great solution...especially for those guys without drills and or metric tap sets.

codyace, you are custom steel?

Aoshi112
07-26-2007, 01:26 AM
I know it gets hot but it just seems a bit too much. I'm running royal purple synchromax but wasnt sure if i needed a tranny cooler. My center console gets so hot it gets pretty annoying after just driving a little hard.

No, he is Pat Pruitt, from New Mexico.

He actually makes body jewlwery, but owns an SE-R sentra, and then makes cool parts like this for us all :D
