Does anybody know the specs that come on the stock CA18ET Turbo? What good would it do on a 240sx while I wait for a T3/T4.

I'm asking those questions because I can have one for dirt cheap.

they have 120-140ish hp. im pretty sure. turbo enges respond better to mods than NA motors. If you have a 2.5ish or larger exhaust and a conefilter/adapter i think the little engine could out power a KA of the same mods.
Just an opinion. Or you could crank up the boost till it explodes, since its dirt cheap=)s

I think he's asking about the specs of the turbo itself.

I'm going to take a guess here and say it's most likely either a T25 or a small T3. I would just skip it. Really it's just a waste of your time. Just save your money and get the T3/T4 and you'll be much happier.

The stock turbo they used was small. It's not worth your time.

Even if I got it for something like 50$Canadian?

I'm not looking for something like instant 200hp gain, but would it work out a little ~40hp?

Would it just break because it's too small for a KA engine?

The turbo is just a small part of the picture. You will need piping fom the MAF to the turbo, piping from the turbo to the intake (you could probably skip an intercooler if you're doing this on the cheap), a manifold (I don't know if the Z18 manifold works on the KA24DE...), a downpipe, a basic boost controller, oil lines, water lines??, gauges, etc. And basically none of it will be of any use to you when you get the bigger turbo. So you will have wasted at least $500 (US) for basically nothing. You'll MAYBE get 40-50 at the wheels, but was it really worth the effort?

Why not just enjoy your beautiful car...and it is purdy...for as long as it takes to get a nice setup. Then do it right. You'll be happier in the end.

I know about the piping issues. As for the manifold, I would have to know the specs of the turbo: if it's a small t3 turbo, I could use a revhard manifold that could be used for a t3/t4 turbo upgrade.

Oil lines and water lines could not be re-used in a turbo upgrade?

I could also try to fit a stock SR sidemount intercooler, which could be re-used in a turbo upgrade (except for the pipe thats goes from the turbo to the intercooler).

Downpipe might have to be redone, I admit it.

I don't see everything I must do with the upgrade as a "loss". Some things might be reusable for a t3/t4 turbo upgrade. What do you think?

That's true about the RevHard manifold. You could reuse it if the CA turbo is a T3. And yes, you might be able to reuse the oil/water lines (unless you make hardlines). And yes, you can probably use the SMIC for both setups if you want.

I'm just trying to say that you WILL have bugs to work out with this setup, and installing the turbo is not going to be an easy job. I think you should just save your time and effort and get the setup you really want. That CA18 turbo is designed for a motor that flows MUCH less air, and has a vastly different torque curve and power delivery. It's a small turbo designed to add some torque down low, basically. It'll probably spool at 2000 rpms on your KA and it'll be way out of it's efficiency range after that. It will also add MAD amounts of backpressure.

So yet again, I say skip it and do it right....not trying to burst your bubble or nothin'

Thanks for the advice.

I thought I could use it. I'll stick with my original plans. (which was getting a T3/T4 hybrid turbo)
