What are good tires to get.
I can't think of a better tire for the money than the Falken Azenis Sport tires.
Check out my review HERE (http://www.steamymirror.com/dsc240sx/review/review_azenis.htm)
Oh, and I need to edit my review on the tread wear...its pretty damn good actually. I've gone about 9,000miles and they are still going strong. They seemed really really soft right at first, but now they don't seem to be wearing as fast/as easy. I don't know if my driving changed or if these tires have a weak outer layer...*shrugs* but they should definately last me until next spring or summer.
(note: i put about 20,000 miles a year on my car)

Potenza RE950's are good all around tires.... check tirerack.com for a review on them.

Dunlop Sport 8000's are good for street use, but are no good for track purposes.
Bridgestone RE71's rule, but i don't think they are available anymore.
pretty much all yokohama tires are good, except they wear quickly.

This thread needs more Nitto and Kumho.

nitto? those things are junk. unless you're one of those guys that only drives in a straight line, then they might be decent.
kuhmos last a while and are cheap...they aren't racing tires or anything. They are hard as a rock.

In what size for what use?
You might want to consider how often you are wanting to replace tires before making a selction. Also, will they see autox, street only, strip? It all matters.
Tirerack has s14 SE size AVS-intermediates for $58/ea.!! (205/55/16). I'm thinking about ordering a set of those jsut to have around.
RE71's do rule... although I don't think I'll see 7,000 miles out of mine <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> Oh well - hopefully by then I'll get some nice cheapo Kumhos for the street and have stickys for "other."

falken azenis are great tires especially for the price they are sold at
Kumho ecstas are good well rounded tires as well
those are the only two i would ever consider at the moment because i am a student and am dirt poor

I ganna say the azenis are the way too go you're ganna see auto x or track time. This is one the few time that you can believe the hype the azenis do rules!
The value/performance is unbeatable by far.
I used them for 4 solo 2 events so far. They stick, stick and stick.
I know I have posted about tires a few times along with some other people, try some searchs <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

ok.. the new yokohama avs es100 is suppose to be an extramly good tire, while it is a W rated tire its suppose to grip the road eaxtremly well. the price is also about the same as the kumho.
just my 2 cents

haven't done much investigating yourself have you?
(no, it doesn't look like s/he has...*sigh*)
Let me just throw in the required pitch for Dunlop Sport FM-901 tires... in 15" they're around 75/tire (which isn't THAT cheap but good compared to other 205/50/15s on the market w/ similar performance).
And let me just say that student, you need some serious lessons in internet etiquette (netiquette) if you want to get any good info from the web (us). <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'>

I have yoko avids which are V rated. They handle really well on the streets, wet or dry. They aren't as cheap or as sticky as the azeni's but they're a good buy at $90 a tire.

that's it.............i laid off at first.........but now you're gonna get it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sneaky.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':pissed:'>
first of all, there is no "etc" there is only the azenis sport and 115, if you would've simply looked at falken's website you could've figured that out all by yourself. also........what in the hell tire do you think we like? by the looks of it the 115 seems to be an all season tire. this isn't a site for people who like to drive 55 in a 65 all the while going comfortably straight ahead. maybe you prefer an all season tire. WE HAVE NO FRIGGIN CLUE WHAT YOU WANT BECAUSE YOU NEVER SPECIFIED.
"what tire's are good"
i don't know.........what the hell you doin with em? where do you live? will it be driven in the winter? will it see track time? OR ARE YOU MAKING A F'N TIRE SWING? how the hell we supposed to know? why don't you get momma's tit outa your mouth and do something for yourself. a very common and helpful website is www.tirerack.com

Tough act to follow up on Tnord, but I agree about the Nittos. I've got them, came with the car. they're really pretty tires, but cornering with them is weak. straight lines are fine...for the tires, personally they bore me. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
Nitto NT450s, not worth the money if you're gonna be cornering.
