I'm in the process of finishing up my s13 blacktop 180sx SR swap into my 93 SE Hatchback. So far, everything is going great except the driveshaft...it's about 3/4" to 1" too short. Everyone I have asked about this said it should fit, but it doesn't.

I've searched and came up with this thread:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=141583&highlight=swap+driveshaft

The only things that I had unbolted are the engine mounts, and trans crossmember. I didn't touch the driveshaft center section bolts or engine crossmember. The exhaust bolted up fine, so I don't think the engine has shifted forward...

Here is a pic, any help is appreciated

I think there are different lengths for the manual and automatic driveshafts. I can't remember which is which, was your car originally a manual?

the car is a manual, non-abs, and non-hicas

i'm concerned that it will leak trans fluid if i pull the yoke out and bolt it up like that

on second thought, after looking at the seal on the transmission, it looks like it would seal without being all the way in

hopefully that's the case

it is the case, just helped a friend change his out. And yes there is a difference between the automatic and manual drive shaft. From what it looks like in your picture you have a manual drive shaft, and it looks to be sitting in just fine. The drift shift is supposed to have a little play forward and back for torque purposes. Looks fine, fill it up with tranny fluid, if it leaks then you have a problem, but you shouldn't

Bingo. Since you don't have a dust collar on the transmission you're not used to seeing some of the yoke. That's completely normal, up to an inch is visible with the driveshaft fully installed.

mine has about a 1 inch gap where it mates with the transmission and its fine.
