hello,
At first when i drove my car for a few weeks, it felt weak. Since then about a couple of days ago, i figured out that it was my timing, and my cas bolts were loose. So i busted out the timing light and timed it to 15 degrees. well when i did that my idle went up a bit, so i messed with the idle screw on the throttle body and it lowered it down a bit. After doing so I drove my car for a test drive and it felt really power full, like it should be. then later that night i took it out again for another drive, well when i got home my idle went up to 1500rpms and wouldnt go back down. so i messed with the idle screw some more and messed with the IACV screw some and it helped a little but wasnt good enough.
My car has been idling pretty rough, from 750rpms to 900rpms.
Im wanting to redo my timing/idle, but cant seem to get it down right.
Now mechanically its timed right. i know this cause i did it not to long ago after dropping my motor in.
There are no boost leaks cause ive already checked to many times. No leakage coming from anywhere.
I do have a atmospheric bov, but i remember along time ago when my motor ran before i did my second swap it idle fine or close enough. but this time i cant seem to get it.
The sound coming from the exhaust is the back firing/hick up sound. Its not horribly bad, but its bad enough.
My car drives like its supposed to, feels powerfull and the guages read right.
Here are the steps i went thru.
1. Reset my Fuel Pressure to 35psi to 40psi with the car in the ignition on position.
2. Recaliburated the tps to .45v to .50v
3. (this is the part im confused about) set my ecu to timing mode, by turning it all the way counter clockwise. (Im not even sure this is right, where i need help on, how to set the ecu to timing mode)
4. Start car let it warm up to operating temp.
5. Shut the car off, then unplug tps harness clip connector.
6. Start the car, rev it past 3000rpms 3 times. then let it idle back down.
7. Adjust the IACV screw to lower the rpms down to about 750 rpms.
8. Using a timing light, time the cas to 15 degrees for the piston number one.
9. Plug the TPS harness clip connector back in.
10.????
What do i do after that?
What do i need to do to drive the car around for timing mode?
do i need to shut the car of in between steps, for the ecu?
is steps 6-9 with the car on all the time? what i did.
I messed with the idle control screw on the throttle body a bit so my idle could be stable/leting the rpms idle a bit up more cause it was to low or to high, and now i dont know how to readjust that. Im tired of playing with this, i dont want to do any more before i f''' something up.
I read the FSM, BUT man i got way confused about half the crap it was talking about, i even tryed it out, but i got no where. It was saying all this crap about put bla blabla into blablabla mode. What???
thanks, brent
