View Full Version : My new car

Hey all, time to introduce myself and tell you all of my new
car. I am Greg and I live near Detroit. I'm a 22 year old former Marine that was stationed in Okinawa for three and a half years. I owned a Skyline GTS-t. That's old news.

When I moved back to Detroit last month, I just wasn't liking the American style like I used to, so I started hunting for a 240SX (or I wouldn't be here, would I?) After a few weeks of searching, I found one on AutoTrader on the internet...problem was it was in Dayton, OH (about a 5 hour drive from D-town). Well I called the guy up and figured it was worth the trip down there since there weren't a lot of Nissans in Detroit (GO FIGURE ).

I made the trip down there with a friend of mine and started going over the car. 185,000 miles on a 92 Base model with the original clutch. This thing was a DOG!!! The body was all dented and dinged. The car was so slow, and the suspension was worn to oblivion. The guy lied to me and tried to tell me he took "GREAT" care of the car by changing the oil every 7,000 miles or so, when I asked him if he ever changed the diffrential or transmission fluid he said he thought he did...once, around 110,000. And he had the nerve to ask for $2500. My friend and I conversed, and then went to lunch to discuss the car before anything was finalized. We decided to run past the local Cadillac dealership to see what this thing was really worth. Oh boy $2040 in Fair condition, $00000 in Poor condition. (this car was somewhere in between.)
That told me what I had to do right there.... I walked after I thanked the guy for his time.

We ran past a local gas station to buy cigarettes and a tradin' times. We looked at the 240's in the local area and left some messages on some people's voice mail and started heading home, planning to look a little in Lima, OH before it got too late.

Just as we got to the North end of Dayton, we got a call back... A nice lady by the name of Sandy gave us directions to her house about an hour SOUTH (read...away from home) of Dayton. We went and checked out this car thinking, "We're already this far from home, let's see what she's got."

We pull up in her driveway (it's dark by now) and already we can see that the car is in WAY better shape than the one we saw earlier in the day. And something else caught my eye in the upper right hand corner of the trunk deck...this car is labelled "LE" hmmm.

Going over the car, everything seems well taking care of. Power Everything, Cruise. Rear wiper. 5 Speed. This thing has it all AND a leather interior and sunroof to top it off. TOP OF THE LINE... WOOOHOOO.. I felt like I won at the slots like I did a couple of weeks ago. (9000 Quarters is a lot!!! Anyway. Take the car for a test drive and it handles BEAUTIFULLY.

I go back and tell her I want it and leave her a deposit so I can pick it up early this week (yesterday)
Then I start my six hour drive home.

Monday I went and registered full time at the local college, but I didn't leave them a payment. It was due tuesday before the end of the business day. No problem I thought, just leave early on Tuesday and I'll be able to make it back in plenty of time. I also got Insurance for the car so I didn't have to tow it home.

An hour after I registered, my ride to pick up the car backs out. . So here I am college not paid for, no ride to Ohio, AND the car I was borrowing sprung a leak in the radiator after the last trip to Ohio.

I give my dad a call and ask him if he can give me the ride. "No problem" he says. Ok, I feel better now and went to bed early anticipating the trip the next day. Nope, No sleep for me, I think I dozed off for about an hour. Argghhh

Well, I wake up in time and head over to my Dad's house. Oops...he's running late. So we left about 8:45. We get to her house about 2ish. The title transfer/ licensing took about an hour, and we started heading back. I did a couple calculations in my head and said at this rate, we wouldm't be home until about 9pm. This is not good. College Cashier's office closes at 7:30pm. We pull over in the first rest stop and I tell my dad what's up and tell him I'm going to go ahead. He says "Be careful, watch out for cops". My dad is so cool. About 30 minutes away from the college, I was going through a construction zone and of all things, I got a flat tire. Later I found the puncture, not pretty. Anyway, I got to the college parking lot and sprinted to the cashier's office about 5 minutes before they closed.

After all that, I want to thank you all for reading this far.

I hope my story interested you.

I have a question. on www.cameljapan.com you can get a 94 skyline for like 2700-4000 US dollars. Now couldnt one get it shipped to Tiajuana and title it in mexico then drive it to wherever you live. Then retitle it as an off road car in whatever state you are in and BAM! Youve got yourself a RHD skyline

What would be the point of buying a skyline and jewing the government to get it in the country thru some back door system only to have the car as you "off street" race car..... so now i spent all this money on a car that i cant drive.....

Why not get a skyline..... and tell eveyone its a S14 with a REALLY good skyline type conversion done to it..... and try to pass it off... (I hope you can tell im joking)

it'd be just as easy to ship it to the US and register it as an off-road type vehicle. if its going to be a non-road going vehicle, what the hell is the point of sneaking it through mexico? they'll let you do that anyways

you still wont be able to drive it on the road though, so unless youre gonna track race it or make it a trailor queen, whats the point?

Nick6315
08-25-2002, 11:13 AM
I actually have a better idea. Get it shipped to mexico then take off some body panels and take out the engine and ship them to separate places ie your house your office your friends house and title it as salvage and itd be street legal

Annoying Eric
08-25-2002, 11:22 AM
Ok why don't you ship a skyline to mexico, try to make a freind and talk them into letting you use there resident title to insure, register and inspect the car still in mexico, then you can just drive the car over the boarder, and still have plates on it, and if you get pulled over, i dunno if you'd still get in trouble. but it would still be cool.

Why did'nt you just ship your skyline to New Zealand and then have it flown to Brazil where you could then drive it up to Mexico where you could live for about a year working in a Mexicain Whorehouse as a pimp earning money for future upgrades for your Skyline. Then buy a huge mexicain truck and hide the Skyline in the back, roll through the border like a champ then once on the other side, break out the skyline and ride at supersonic skyline speeds to michigan. Then when u get home you can steal the Vin info from a wrecked 240SX in a junkyard and glue that info on your Skyline and get it registered as a US car and be the coolest person EVA~ Yeah why did'nt you do that?

08-25-2002, 11:43 AM
ROFL!!!!!

Yep, that seems easy enough...............LOL

Or maybe someone can go to japan, become a diplomat and just ship there car over here and then they could do whatever they want, Cause you all know diplomats don't get in trouble for anything they do..

I hope you people relize that the diplomat thing was a joke. HAHA. (some people just get dropped on there heads one too many times as children)

lol sum funny stuff. Or you can take the easy way out and bend over and give MotoRex a call.

If you seriousluy want a Skyline or any car from Japan, you might as well talk to the guys at J's Garage (http://www.j-garage.com) They can get it over here as a race car for you. Or just move to Japan and buy one of them funky minivans

There ARE some goofy ass Minivans in Japan, that's for sure.

My Skyline was a great car, It just wasn't worth it to bring it back. It wasn't a GTR, it had a lot of miles on it (I added about 25,000 Kilometers on the car in 1 year.( by the way, Okinawa is only 100 Km long, give or take.) I would've needed to rebuild the engine, redo the suspension, and generally restore the car to get it to be awesome here in the states. And imagine if I got into an accident, there are hardly any 240's in Detroit let alone Skylines. No body panels, to fix what would become a weekend car. I just want to drive, I wouldn't be able to with the Skyline.

Plus it was kinda heavy. I want to drift now, so I bought a 240sx. I'm planning on building it to be a bleeding edge race/street car. I'll keep you all posted on what I'm doing to the car.
