Maybe I'm the only one, but does anyone else think that running the intake over the radiator (s13, dont know about other) is a stupid factory design? I dont have the cold air extension, but I do have the Injen intake. When I bought it, the only finish they had available was chrome. I'm not excited about chrome, but whatever. Contrary to popular belief looks have minimal, or no affect on performance. But everytime I open my hood after driving for any amount of time, my intake is VERY hot. Hot enough to make me think it is warming the air before it enters the throttle body. Has anyone else noticed this, and done anything to correct it? Or am I just insane and need to take my meds??

i know what your saying...when i first saw the engine bay of my car i noticed that intake ran over the radiator. i would think that running it over the radiator would make it hot...but i'm no expert...but i do agree with you...

Yes, it is true. But the short ram is supposed to increase the flow area, not as much lower the temperature of the incoming air. You ofcourse can try doing what meowth did, and make your intake run to where the battery is (got to move that to the trunk first though). Injen has no idea what mods you have, so they make stuff that will fit in the places that free up when u remove stuff. Plus, don't forget the goal of the OEM (for our cars at least) isn't performance, but rather fuel efficiency. So if you think about it, running over the radiator actually did what the Nissan wanted it to do.

Essentailly the best design would be to cut a hole in your hood and rotate the intake 90 degrees so it sits straight up. Snorkle style

Troo. But than you can't drive your car in the rain

Other than relocating the batt. to the trunk, I'm looking at the spot where my factory air box used to be (on the other side of the engine bay) and thinking with some custom work, the batt. could fit over there, then freeing up the space on the throttle body side for a shorter intake...

I did some crazy stuff to my old S13. Trying to make a long story short....I made a fiberglass box to fit in the fender. I had two openings that faced out through the bumber. I installed a mini commercial high speed fan from a personal submarine (another long story there) in one of the openings. It had a switch, but was also wired to the ignition. Most of the time I would just leave it running-especially during the summer. It would spin free when it was off. It would seriously blow your hand back. I would judge 60mph+ wind. Anyway, the other opening was good for high speed all the time. I think this helped alot during my stop and go driving. The filter NEVER was hot.
The kicker on this setup was that I could put a 6x4x4 (I think that was the size) chunk of dry ice in it for super cool airflow on the track. My slips at the track actually showed a difference! This was when all I had was a intake/exhaust/wires-
w/o ice - 16.0, 16.1, 16.0
w/ ice - 15.7, 15.7, 15.8
The air was cold as crap coming through that thing.
The intake was not sealed to the filter (Stillen intake), but it was wrapped around pretty much the whole thing. I sold the car with it, but have dreams of doing something similar on the S14

The 7th Don from 240-sx.com did this on his car and posted a how-to at 240sx.org by relocating his battery to where the airbox used to be. Then he made a short ram custom intake that drew air from that side of the car. Great idea, wish i saw it before i bought my Injen =(
But another thing I saw on a turbo car that I will probobly do when I go KA-T is to make a custom housing for where the intake draws air in, where it is sealed above and blew with weatherstripping. Basically just boxing off the hot air from the rest of the engine bay.... I mean cold air
