View Full Version : Best Way to put together S15.5 conversion/SR20 Swap?

Hey guys, Im sorry if this is in an FAQ somewhere, but I suck at searching and 2 hours of search queries and scanning threads got me nowhere. Just a couple simple questions if its not too much trouble.

First off, I have a pretty clean 1995 S14 SE, with a very high mileage KA that Im looking to swap out. I would also like to do a S15 front end conversion on it, and paint it black. My brother works a body shop/paint shop so Im not too worried about the body work involved, but I would like a hint as to how much trouble it really is.

So my two questions:

1. Whats the best way to put together parts for a S15 front end conversion? Look around and buy individual parts, or is there a place that sells all the parts together? This is really my first venture into modding and Im not really sure where to start?

2. Whats the most reliable way to get my hands on a clean SR20? Id really like to have an S14 SR20 if at all possible, and I would need everything needed for the swap (which Im not even sure what all that is, but I have lots of time to find out, lol), including the tranny. Ive heard some horror stories about people paying through the nose and getting cracked blocks or f*d up cylinders, and Id definitely like to avoid this.

again, sorry for the noob questions I really couldnt find an answer, and Im really very new at all this, so feel free to insult/kick/mutilate/whatever :)

*edit* fixed typo in thread title = drunk 2am posts = bad :newbie:

Enjuku racing is in FL, and they are a site sponsor. They can get you most, if not all, of the parts you need, and are a great shop to do business with. If you were out in cali, there would be a bunch of shops to contact, but to my knowledge, Enjuku pretty much runs the game down there.

Yah I went to their first annual BBQ, it was pretty sick. Lots of cars to be inspired by down there, and I only lived like 6 blocks away, lol.

Unfortunately I recently had to store my 240 in Texas, so I would need shops close to Dallas if at all possible. I was gonna look Enjuku up when it was still in Fl, unfortunately I dont have a way to get bulky stuff from Fl. to Tx. as I dont own a truck and shipping is outrageously expensive these days.

well why dont you make a list of the parts you need for the S15 conversion.

then compare the total price for finding the parts individually versus a kit, bam easy solution.

easiest way to get an SR? ummm lets see. Stuff your wallet with some cash and head down to your nearest local importer. Tell em you want to visually inspect each motorset and run a compression test.

its not like the question you asked is anythign new or groundbreaking, shits been asked since 2001....over on 240sxforums there is a sticky titled: "everything you need for an SR swap" pretty much the noob friendliest sticky of all time

SR20: http://www.jdmenginescorp.com (http://www.jdmenginescorp.com)

They are located in the Dallas area... you can go by and check out the SR20s if you want.

Thanks shiatsu, thats really what I was looking for as far as the SR20 goes, was just looking for a local importer.

Anyone have a local importer that does S15 body parts? Or should I just start scouring private threads/ebay?

alot of websites sell what you need.
jspec.com has a webpage dedicated to it.

alot of ebay vendors also sell used invidual parts seperately. that would be the best bet if you want oem stuff.

btw, plan it out and do it right. s15 front ends do not look nice unless the rest of the car is done to match.

anything that costs more the $20 is more than worth planning out, much less something thats going to cost at LEAST $12,000 by the time Im done (engine+rebuild+go-fast parts/conversion/suspension/wheels/etc.

Kinda nice that my bro works at a body shop so he can help me match up perfect and then I can have him lay down a nice custom color for me, Im thinking a nice deep grey metallic with blue candy and JDM two-tone the roof a deep deep black with a silver base-coat and blue candy.

Gonna go check out an S15 SR20 w/ 6speed tranny tomorrow. if ur gonna do a swap, do it right!

thanks for the info bro, Ill start doin some research now that Ive got a starting place!

Thanks guys ^_^
