hey guys, sorry if i seem too careful/wutever with the questions but this is the second time i dropped the tranny this month and i want to get things done right. so any help would be appreciated. first, i heard that you have to put engine oil as lube on the pilot bearing, or can i just use regular grease that i use for input shaft and everything else? and second, what does this clip do and do i need it? it seems pretty easy to just fall out and bounce around in there.

also, i only put grease on the inside of the TOB carrier and none on the TOB itself correct?

thanks guys.

There is a little gold ball looking thing on the tranny that you have to get the clip around.

That clip is the retainer clip for the clutch fork pivot ball.

Taken from another thread, but in this picture its broken. It should give you a good idea how it connects to the clip.

Yep, but it's obviously broken off and the aftermath is the ball still on the clip and what is now just a regular looking bolt still bolted to the tranny.

Wow.. I'm feelin' good right now so I'll be nice. You clip the clutch fork pivot ball onto the clutch fork retainer clip.

hey, wipe the grease off of shit before you take pics. atleast make it pretty for us to look at.. let alone, so we can see what were looking at.

but yes, grease the throwout bearing and the pilot bushing.

I'm gonna disagree with that one, well the throwout bearing part at least. Clean the excess grease off of the pilot bearing and make sure none touch the clutch disk or pressure plate.

dont overgrease the Pilot. Throw out bearing needs no grease, just make sure it will fit into hole. You should not have to force the pilot bearing in with excessive force, I like to put mine in where it has free play. and yea, you needs to buy the ball for the pin. Looks like it broke off.

I never use "grease". I use synthetic brake caliper lube, aka synthetic grease. Any metal to metal connection, you want something on there. I used a thing layer on the surface of the TOB that hits the pressure plate.. Just enough to know its there, the inside of the TOB, once again.. just enough to know its there, lube the ball of the pivot, and where the fork hits the tob. Nice light amounts are all you need. Factory service manual outlines so as well. Oh yeah.. Use anti-seize on the tranny splines. Smear a fucken ton on there, grab a paper towel, and wipe it off by "jerking" the shaft off haha. Yes, I'm serious.
