Cheap jack sucks. I have had one for less than a year and the front seal in the ram is leaking. Spend a little extra and get a better quality one.

just make sure you get one that has a low profile for lowered cars. Any brand is good.

walmart has a low profile jack on special $29.95.
great for taking to the track cuz the size and weight.
don't buy aluminum jacks so far none of them we have used last.
the best one we have used is the Arcan 3ton low profile jack we got from Costco for $70, 4 year and still working fine.

Stay away from the Craftsman Low Profile they sell at Sears. It sucks, big time!
Owned it for less then 6 months. Standard use, nothing unusual. Seal blew, oil leaked everywhere. Almost dropped the car on myself. Hooray jack stands!

I have a cheapie $25 one that works great from RNS Strauss. Great for lifting corners.. sucks for putting the whole car up on stands though. It pulls the car a lot towards you...

i've been using the low profile aluminum hf racing jack for about a year and a half. i had two and the wheel broke off one of them, so i jbwelded it back on. still works. lol.
imo... fuck the regular one. splurge for the fast pump hf aluminum racing jack. and invest in some wood planks from home depot.

I'm gonna buy me a new jack.
I have the HF one as well.
It's taken a far share of beatings, served me well though.
I'd buy another.

Hooray jack stands!
Double true. I only use the jack long enough to get it up on stands no matter what I'm doing. I don't trust any jack, no matter how much I paid for it, to keep me alive under the car.
My jack is pretty cheap, but it's worked for the minute or so I need it to get the car on stands every time. I used that same jack and stands for my entire swap.

jrmiller is a wise man... a jack only has to work for the few seconds you need to get stands underneath... my jacks are both probably 20 years old but we all know they built things better then anyways

yeah, a jack should only be used to get your car on jackstands. never trust a jack to hold your car up for extended periods. I too have the Craftsman one, it works well for me, looks cool, haven't had any problems, but I haven't had it for a year yet. :x:

I use this one. It's the shortest thing I could find, and I still have to be on 2x10s, two board thicknesses high, to get under it... LOL

I got one recently from torin bigred that looks exactly like that one, it worked great for awhile, super light weight, didn't go as high as some other jacks but it was also the smallest jack I had. My friend tried jacking up his car pretty high and pushed the jack to its limit, it blew some oil at the piston and got stock all the way up. I hit it with a hammer and got it to appear to work again, don't know if i even want to try it now though =\

lol. i got the hf low profile one. im on the third one cuz the spring on one of the pistons of the other two popped out. im guessing they finally fixed this problem since the 3rd one is still working. +1 for hf and their no question return policy. well all you say is it broke and they'll give you a new one hooray.

i like a toyota previa trunk jack and some spare pieces of plywood.
i cant believe this takes so many pages.
just go to harbor frieght or if you dont have one, just go to sears or something, shell out some money for a good one, especially if you see yourself racing a lot in the future.
