I've heard some rumors about Nissan's intentions to bring the Silvia here to the states. Has anyone else heard these rumors? We all know the import scene continues to grow by leaps and bounds everyday, and car companies are gearing there efforts toward this car segment. With the likes of the WRX, and soon the EVO, cars with exceptional power, handlinig and overall performance that are affordable for the everyday Joe, do you think its time we try and do our part as Nissan enthusiasts and at least show Nissan through email the support it would have for a car like our beloved Silvia. I'm not asking for you to sign your name in blood, I already have the letter typed out, its simple and to the point. But it would at least prove to Nissan that there is a demand, who knows maybe it will do nothing. But what if it does at least influence the thinking over in Japan. Whats the worst they could say.....no. hell we've been getting that ever since the 240 was introduced to the states.

Here is what the letter says:

Hi,
I have owned many Nissans in my time. One of my favorite cars has always been the 240sx. Its great price, fantastic handling, and sexy looks said it all. I am a Nissan enthusiast and would like to beg and plead with you to bring the s15 from Japan or create a new s16 to bring over to America. The time of American muscle and the resurgence of the Japanese sportcar is upon us. Just look at the Subaru WRX and what they have done. Cheap, high powered and attainable by everyone. If you could do that with a s15/s16 Silvia and keep it under 25k there could be a great deal of interest in that car. Fellow Nissan enthusiasts feel the same way. Please bring over the Silvia.

Sincerely
Put name here

Copy and paste, re-write what you like, or write your own letter yourself. It doesn't matter. Its numbers that matter. I feel we owe it to ourselves to at least give it a shot.

Man I can't wait for the feedback on this one......lol. Ok guys and gals, talk to ya lata.

Not going to happen, they are discontinuing the Silvia. There have been rumors of an S16, but that's all they are; rumors.

One of my biggest problems, not reading the entire post before replying. It might be a good idea to write the letter, but I have a feeling that they would just respond with saying that's what the new 350z is for.

Although I highly disagree that it's anywhere near the performance of the WRX or Lancer EVO. Exactly like West said below bringing the Silvia over here would compete w/ the 350z in both price and target market (sporty, though the Silvia is better than the 350z IMO).

I remember in 99 Nissan announced that they would re release another Z and produced what was a 240z concept car which was pretty much a 240sx. TwinTurbo.net asked if everyone would write up a letter on what to do with the new Z and what they were doing wrong. I foget how many lettes they got total but it was a damn large ammount. I wrote mine which was 2 pages long. We could always do something like this but I highly doubt Nissan America will bring the Silvia over since it will compete with the new 350Z.

Nissan won't be able to compete with the likes of subaru, honda, or toyota unless they either drop the price on the 350z, or bring the silvia back and over to the U.S. With the likes of the MKV coming up in a couple of years, it would be a great move on Nissan's part to bring a sporty two door turbo to the U.S. for less then 25k. Everyone knows the car would sell...how many times do you get asked everyday if you have the sr20det? It's reputation is enough for the marketing part. I don't think the silvia would compete with the 350z, it would act as the middle car between the ser and the 350z...like the 200, 240, then 300zx. History repeats itself.

Edit: Just read my post....I sound like a dick, but I'm not trying to...just adding conversation.

If they brought an a car over to replace the 240sx, you could be Gauranteed it would not be on the S-chassis, nor would be run by a SR20det. These are both very old technologies that would surely do absolutely Nothing for the current nissan lineup.

I would however like to see a Turbo QR25DE(T) in a smaller XVL Chassis car.. that would be sweet. maybe the 250z(x)

I doubt they will bring the Silvia over here. It's just a waste of money and is not appealing too young buyers who want a nice looking car and still money left to find some cheap mods for it (cheap as in not heavily priced)...such as the Civic Si.

Nissan should make a hatchback or coupe that is priced fairly nice and looks good when its stock , but even better modded.

I actually wished they brought the JN15 ove here to the U.S.

It's a nice looking hatch and very nice modded.

well I have a few things to say about this.
First off Nissan may bring a sports coupe here . Pure speculation at best. no fact behind it. Now lets get down to logistics . 350z is an awesome car and is already sold out for the 2003 model year. Its a true sports car its priced quite reasonably and basically repeats the the legend of the original 240z i.e. sells out the first year in advance i.e waiting lists to get the car. Incredible performance value for the cost. Just like the original. Add to that suspension that is world class chassis that is world class and guess what it fills the niche.
Ok then add the fact that under the Infinity name plate we will see the GTR . They are not planning on tagging the skyline name to it anymore.
Ok now whoever says Nissan can't hold a candle to Honda or Suburu does not know their Japanese car companies.
In Japan Nissan is the premier sports car company. Toyota is the luxury car company . Suburu is a utility car company and Honda is a grocery getter. HOnda has built its sports car namesake of their motorcycle heritage and that heritage is awesome. Yes they make Formula one engines but Nissan and Toyota both make Formula car engines as well as Indy car engines.
Honda does have two sports cars but they do not have the sports car history Nissan does.
Nissan is a very competive company right now and actually are in the black and showing profit. Do not underestimate their ability to win back the sports segment of the American market a segment they once dominated with the likes of the 2000 roadster , the 240z and its following line and the sports sedan the 510. They are posied to repeat the sales of the 1970's and they have the product and they have the management under Ghosn. He knows his business well. Yes the SER needs more tweaking but I feel they will take care of it.
Remember before you dis Nissan they gave you your 240sx though they did not market well here . They have learned from the mistakes made in the mid 80's and mid 90's. Remember the 180sx sold in Japan from 89-98 that is a very long model run and it was only because it was the right stuff .
It is actually superior to a stock 240z in handling . has near perfect weight balance and close to equal in power a little off here, but not in Japan.
Honda will always have the econo market to a certain extent and Suburu will always have the utility AWD market.
Nissan will have a well rounded car line consisting of some good suv's and trucks. Great sports cars and nice luxury cars.
S16 here ? it would have to be brought in at the $15-20K range , hmmm SER territory. Could it happen well its up to them not us . I am not holding my breath.

If Nissan would fulfill the promise of the Se-R Spec V, there would be no reason for the "Silvia" debate. If that car actually had 180/175 it could be every bit as awesome as the old 180's. Still - even w/ the already good performance, I don't see one of those a week on the roads.

But RWD? 200+ hp? Coupe?

W/ the $32K (or whatever) base price for the z32, there was a lot of room for the "S" car. At $27K, in this market, there is not. You will notice that before, Nissan had it spread out - Se-R at $16K, 240 at $23K, and z32 at $30+K. Room. At $27K for the 350z you can't fit another competitor in there.

The other thing to account for is how many of the people claiming the "need" for this car are ready to head for their dealership and pony up the dough? Nissan doesn't sell cars so that people can pick them up 4-10 years later for 50-20% of their retail value - which is what about everyone on this board did! Contrary to the popular belief of SCC readers, most people don't buy turbos and they don't buy rwd coupes. There's a reason these cars left America. Further, to the extent they can return, they return only to this niche segment which must be willing to shell out at least $27K. The other thing here is that, when adjusted for inflation, the 350z is almost the same price as the s14! If people were really to put their new-car-money where their mouth is, they'd be on a waiting list!

Pretty much sums it up right there. I don't buy new cars... the only money VW and Nissan have made from me is in the form of parts. I'm sue many of you fall into this category too.

Besides, I just outright prefer cars of the '80s and '90s to new designs.

Uhh, camppain, the JN15 Pulsar VZ-R does not have a SR20VE engine. It has a SR16VE (even the N1 version).

FYI... Dood!

What they need is to expand the Sentra line to include a hatch, possibly a coupe and more engine choices.

They probably wont bring over annother low cost RWD sports car because the Z already starts pretty cheaply.

I must be the only one, but I loved that Z prototype they had in 99. I guess it offended the Z purists, but it would have been an American S15 with a SR20DET. I liked the styling too.
