I'm not looking to upgrade my headlights to a full HID setup....I just have 2 quick questions

Stock Kouki low beam bulbs are 55W H1 halogens

Would running Silverstar halogens, which are 65W, be safe? I have no clue as to what is safe and what isn't...

Also, I just had someone give me a pair of Hiper Industries H1 Xenon-charged low-beam bulbs

The packaging says 12V/80W, but then it also says 100W.....

see for example the following package:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9006-SUPER-PLAZMA-XENON-HID-LOOK-HEADLIGHTS-LIGHT-BULBS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ012QQit emZ220122119531QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

notice how it says 12v/60-55w, but then it also says 130/100W

Why do they give two different sets of wattages, and which one is the true wattage?

so how many watts is safe on a stock kouki projector (low beam)...FSM says 55W is the recommended bulb

thanks

In specific to your question: http://clearcorners.com/services/0001/

Stay away from bullshit brands (including the one you mentioned). You can go with reputable mfg that offers higher wattage bulb, but be sure to run a relay wiring harness.

55-65 is safe with stock wiring. However, read this article and you'll see how its more important to get facts, not ratings:
http://clearcorners.com/services/0002/

Use an ammeter to determine exactly how many amps your bulbs are REALLY consuming, not how many they CLAIM to consume. Its just like stereo equipment, bullshit manufacturers make bullshit claims. There amplifiers produce 1000 watts *peak* but thats horseshit. Real amp manufacturers are conservative with their ratings, and a true 50w or 100w amp can outperform that 1000w pile of shit.

That's what I have in my Kouki right now, they work perfectly. I had the 1st pair in for about 5 months and then my driver's side bulb went out because apparently I touched the bulb and got alot of grease on it off of my hands. It lasted for 5 months like that. That should show you the quality of Sylvania. I made sure not to touch the bulbs this time around so let's see how long these last...

i know silverstars are really good.....i am primarily concerned with the slightly high wattage (65W) versus recommended (55W)

I'm not trying to ruin my brand new $450 kouki headlights

Yet you're still attempting to use halogen bulbs. Silverstars, no matter how pretty they are at night, are not HIDs.

dont hate on russ, hes just old and cranky. sometimes, vision probably sucks.. especially after heavy drinking on a saturday night. hehe...

i understood what you meant, yousaid you never wanted HID, just good halogen bulbs.

wise choise. but ide say save some money, put it into a quality set of hid projectors and do a good retrofit. end.

Don't run the cheap ebay "blue coated" HID lookalike garbage. I spent 10 bucks on a pair and got roughly 3 hours use out of them before they simultaneously blew. Awesome!
