View Full Version : Does it matter if Baffle plate is bent?

While putting the bottem end back together I discovered the small rectangular baffle that bolts to kangaroo girdle has slits to direct oil flow. The edges of the slits are nice and flat. Now the other more rectangular baffle on the other hand has wave like edges on the slit parts almost like someone was prying on it with a screw driver. Does this matter? Do I need another or should I just clamp it back straight with pliers?

I dont know what your trying to say, post a pic.

They need to allow drainage of the oil down from the crank shaft into the upper pan and eventually into the lower pan for suckage back into the oil pump and through the system.

Ok I dont have it with me right now so this is the best I could do. The red is the edge of the flap parts that direct oil. They are all bent and wavey.

Also while im at it. Someone said this looks bad and that the keepers should be even. Does this matter?

Does it look like its oem construction? it should be pretty easy to tell if not grab a pair of needle nose plyers and straighten out the tabs, they should angle down (towards the upper pan) at a 45 deg angle to allow controlled gradual return of oil from crankcase.

the crower ret looks fine to me.

I wouldnt trip too much on the girdle, if you can bend them out, as long as they are not closed down keeping the oil from draining, you should be AOK.

Was there alot of slack between the keeper ID hole and the od of the valve stem? Otherwise it looks like an imperfect hole on that keeper. The spring sticking out around the side worries the hell out of me, I could see the possibility of the spring looping over the keeper at high rpm's.

I would get rid of them.

retainer is fine. As long as the slits are open to return oil to the pan it will be fine.
