Now on a 1989 240 with ABS, for the two rear brakes, They are trying to charge me 681 dollars for two calipers(Even though he said only 1 had a blown seal), brake pads, and rotors because they are "Underspec" Now tell me but it seems like they are trying to get the best of me and he said only 128 dollars of it was labor...THats quite a bit of money for parts im not seeing..As that 4 brand new brake pads from autozone is only 32 bucks and rotors are 60 a peice.

i'm with west, they're trying to fuck with you, for that price you might as well get the Z32 upgrade for couple hundred more

here's what i would do; get a list of all the parts they said they would need to do the repair, buy aftermarket pieces, then take them somewhere else and have them do it, or do it yourself, i don't think it's all too difficult

Calipers are very ungodly expensive from the dealer. This may be a job to do your self. Search www.car-part.com for some used rear calipers. You can buy a rebuild kit and rebuild them if necessary. Then buy some OE replacement pads (or similar) and rotors (if they can't be turned) and do the job on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. It would cost you a fraction of the cost a dealer would charge you. You may also might want to do the 300zx upgrade up front or at least a replacement pad/rotor job at this time too seeing as how you are going to have to bleed the fluid and add new anyhow.

well, 2 new rotors, 2 new calipers, and 2 new pads should be about $400-500 from the dealer. so its not really a rip off. you'd just be buying things you don't need. you can get oem rotors and pads for half the nissan price almost anywhere, and refurbished calipers or one ones from a junkyard can be had pretty cheap. in total, you should pay 250-300, and just do it yourself if you can.

also 128 for labor is too much. its at most an hour and a half.

i found that wether its the deales, brake shop, or local autoparts store, the rotors are only like a 10 dollar difference i think the cheepest i foud was 60 dollars - each

That is a rip off!!!!!I did a complete brake job myself on my car,That was both front rotors and all four brake pads,Misc tools, and brake clean. All cost me a little over $200.00.If i would have went to a shop well over at least 400.00 with labor. So imo go to the parts store and get the stuff yourself and do it your self. Not to hard with all wheel disc brakes.

hold on. he has to swap calipers too, which means bleeding the brakes. not everyone can do that.

beissen, how did you buy all the parts for $200? mine was about $700 cdn ($450 US), and i did it my self. yes, i got upgrade parts, but still...

i'm assuming you didn't get a new shim kit and you went with cheapo pads and rotors, cause even the autozone prices that thorpedo quoted wouldve totaled 300US with no shim kit.

My rotorsd were only 65-70.00 a piece and the brakes were also only 50-60.00 and also i dont have an se so my rotors are cheeper.Plus most of the tools i neeed were in my shed all except the a piston compresor tool that looks like square with different patterns.

still, thats 320, not 200, and you dont need any special tools. just a wrench, a clamp, and needlenose pliers.

Hey vancouvers14 not tying to put ya down but if you add $70.00 + $70.00 + $60.00=$200.00 So haw did you get $320.00.I got the new silencers with the pads but i do need to add some stop squeel to the rear. But i bought the piston compresing tool for the rear i had neddle nose but i did not want to mess arounfd with them so i go the tool and was done with the rear in about 30 minutes thats jacking and removeing the tires on both sides. But it is all good.
