well, i have no idea, just try anything! try to reset the ECU, that's the only thing you can do now.  because i know only in 5th gear you get limited at 5k.

im not really sure, but it could be that youve been shifting too late and passing redline alot.

when you pass redline the camshaft starts to bounce around which is really really bad. if youve been doing that alot you may have damaged something internally.

otherwise im not sure what the problem may be, maybe it is something with the ecu, but i doubt your car would make a noise like that if it was just the ecu.

i had a friend with an accord who did that and blew a piston, or bent a rod, or something, all i remember was him not having a car for a few weeks...it was pretty bad.

this is just a guess, and i don't know what the safe-mode rpm is for the ka, but could it be in safe mode because of an engine problem?  do u have any warning lights on?

Just wondering....are you the guy who cut his rev limiter sensor wire a while back?  Cause if you cut the wrong one, I heard your RPMs are actually reduced.

If you disconnect the battery that should reset it.  Also, the ecu is found in the kickpanel on the passenger side

WHeres the kick panel, i assum thats around the Passagner side feet but i couldn't see anything there.  One of my vacumm lines was slighty broken so that might be why my Car is in "safe mode".  SO the 5k rpm isn't normal?

Disconnecting the battery doesn't always work for hard codes and soft codes.  My advice is pay the 40 bucks or whatever, and have a Nissan dealership put their wonder computer on it, and have them tell you what error signals the computer is reading.
