i did a brief search and found two posts. So what i have so far si some one said i should go with a GT30 turbo. I have a way to pick up a GT40 for hella cheap and its new. But i think thats to big. I have a GT2871R .64 trim. How much can i make from that. I want to push over 400whp and i have fully built internals top and bottom and there done right and the motor has CP pistons bored out to 87.5 i think. I just ordered them so i dn;t know what the compresion is going to be i am going to have them machined to fit perfectly with the setup. can some one tell me what turbo i should use. I want a 300 around town setup and be able to push some were int he 400 maybe even break 500. Im just asking to see what people think
thanks guys

GT30 series for sure, GT2871R .64 is awesome for response and decent power but you're not going over 400hp with that unless you're boosting insane lbs of boost.

If you did a search for Gt2871r you would have had 200 pages of results. There are a million posts about dyno results with the .64 and the same question you asked.....
You need to do some more research to! 300 all day fine, but then maybe get 400/500 whp (that's a wide window) it's not going to happen without a top mount turbo. Atleast not that I've ever seen so far.

if you have a fully built engine, you dont want to waste all that time and money from that and go with such a small turbo like a 2871r. I would definately go with something topmount. I think you will be much happier.

You dont need to sleeve the piston with an 87mm bore, thats only 1mm over. A good route for you would be a top mounted GT3071R.

Top-Mount is simply to provide room for the larger framed turbo....i dont think anyone makes a t3 flanged bottom mount manifold...
little advice, if you go topmount with a gt30r (or gt40r) dont get the treadstone cast top-mount manifold...it positions the turbine outlet right behind the lines going into the BMC...
I just ran into this while trying to install my GT3076r .82 a/r.....now i have to ship the manifold back to treadstone, and order the Full-Race manifold(like i should've done from the beginning...lol)
btw, the gt30r, depending on which a/r you choose, can support up to 525hp...however they dont seem to spool on sr's till mid-5,000rpms...drag's my thing so i dont care about ultra quick spool, but for an everyday driver i'd go with something smaller.

Unless I missed it I haven't seen what your intended use is? IE. Street, Drag, Autox etc.... I think you should consider that when you pick your turbo.
It's no secret that you maintain streetability sticking with the smaller trim bottom mount turbo and having to do more internal and bolt on items to reach your 400 hp marker.
The top mount (MOST) takes more RPM to spool giving you shitty streetability.
That's just something to consider before you go buying the biggest turbo to try and get the most power on a dyno to have it work like shit for what you intended.

bummer ya spooling at 5000rpm is defently somehting im trying to stay away from. I guess i will stay witht he GT28... it spools nicly and i guess thats what i would rather have. I am going for an all around car for street drift and road race. Nothing all out but i wanted to make some impresive power. BUt i would rather haave moderate power than major lag i guess. Thansk for the help guys
so whats the most can i push out of the Gt2871R .64

:aw:
So that means you have to make the SR to be able to rev safely past 8000 rpm to use those power?
That would be a b**** to drive on the street...

gt35r spools at mid 5k
gt30r in .63 spools up hard at 4400 rpms even at high boost ranges.
of course tuning and manifold as well a cam selection can throw this off.
very subjective.
go with a .63 ar gt3071r or .78 twin scroll and some beefy cams, greddy IM and good ems you should be able to hit 420whp maxed out on decent race fuel.

but this means i have to go with a top mount then...
is there a way to do it and keep it bottom mounted???
