1 unit

6+ individual gauges.
does battery volt, fuel, speed, trip and regular odometer as well.
options for lap timers and such and data logging as well

everything in one compact unit.

used in conjuction with your ems?

so all it does it display what your ems monitors or it has its own sensors like individual gauges?

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 11:15 PM
i dont have EMS, no pfc, no motec, no aem, etc etc.
enthalpy rom tune

Stacck runs its own sensors.
i used to run all Defis. but this works out better for my setup.

(i'm jealous as fuck)

SlowCoupe
05-25-2007, 11:18 PM
ah ok. I was asking because I have the aem ems and would like to have a all-in-one display instead of having my labtop on me.

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 11:20 PM
for your setup

Get an "AIM"

www.AIMSPORTS.com

it works with AEM

strada works w/ AEM cool
http://www.aimsports.com/products/mxl-strada/index.html

retail is cheaper too, $999

SlowCoupe
05-25-2007, 11:26 PM
yea i seen that, but i do not like the digital tach. i like to see a needle for a tach.

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 11:29 PM
your basically SOL
thats why i went w/ this
haha
stuff like AEM works off stock sensors so this isnt bad, i dont trust stock sensors...

anyways

tomrrow & weekend
should get a nice writeup on install, wiring and making the cluster and fitting the stack in the cluster under the plastic.

05-26-2007, 02:37 PM
You may want to ask MA if they can get the STACK 180sx gauge cluster plastic piece. They should already manufacture a plastic piece that takes up the old gauge cluster and allow for the STACK unit almost as if it was a factory option. That way you can get something that will fit absolutely perfect. Just a suggestion. Nice unit!

here we go w/ the starting stuff

STACK 8130
Metric model (KPH, BAR, Celcius)
white face
8K tach

first:
gauge cluster
clean it out

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02562.jpg

second: oogle STACK

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02563.jpg

now the work begins

STACK makes it real easy. everything is labeled and the directions are easy to follow. off to install stuff. weeeeee

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02564.jpg

and this is for my turbo gauge. since i couldnt afford the TURBO option for the STACK, I stuck w/ my good ol reliable and awesome, DEFIs!!!

60mm defi boost. the only gauge ill have. no need for an EGT or FP gauge in the car, meh.

Dousan_PG
05-26-2007, 07:05 PM
so i made the holding peice. its drying now. used acrylic. took a wile, but dremel tool rules
mounted the stack in, fits PERFECT
put the boost next to
so up next in a bit ill update w/ the STACK in the stock cluster unit.
woo woo
thast about all i can do this weekend besides put in the power/ground and mount the switches

im getting hungry!

O3DigitalBath

Dousan_PG
05-26-2007, 07:52 PM
well ends up
cant fit how i wanted
gotta space it forward like na inch so the plug will fit
so ill have to do it the way like Kumakubo does it. just a flat panel with the stack ontop.
so doing that TOMROROW
im too tired to recut another pice. and its not even forever. later we'll laser cut one. so here is it....

BUT it wont work this way hahahahah

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02582.jpg
cut out the cluster. good job!

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02583.jpg

and it doesnt fit in teh car
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c252/dousan/stack/DSC02584.jpg

SHIT!

so tmorrow doing it again haha

this plastic cover was shit anyways so it works out.
so no worries.

05-26-2007, 09:59 PM
does it have a fuel quantity built into it?

Dousan_PG
05-26-2007, 10:22 PM
yes it does have fuel level too. problem is. i dont have any wires but a power to the pump running to rear, i run a painless kit. dont realy care for fuel, might put it in later. no worries personally. i always carry gas w/ me on the road.

well like flybert said, this plugfor back is HUGE

so i had to mount it ON the plastic for teh gauge cluster. totally sucks! s13. bleh. s14 it would work out better. anyways, its drying now ill have pics in a few hours.
still didnt wire it up yet, ugh. tomorrow when daytime i will. do that and um...the oil stuff

the fittings were bigger then what the defi sensors were
so im going to get an adapter and stuf. no worries, easy fix.
i wanted to replace my middle unit where my oil filter is.

Dude I've been waiting for this thread since I saw your Defi gauge setup, and you hinted you were gonna get the Stack. Excellent! It woulda been totally bomb if it could fit like you wanted, but no matter how it's mounted, it'll look incredible.

On a side note, I can't believe the boost metering option isn't included like the base model AIM.

Dousan_PG
05-27-2007, 01:17 AM
kognition makes one? no shit!!
or would have to make one?
we can laser cut stuff ourselves, no CF stuff though. shits expensive. i have a KOGNITIN cf deal right now for the double din. $$$ big money. cant afford such right now. got 4 track events coming up! BUT YES i must hit him u whn he is free

but here's how it is mounted now.

ENJOY!
i took lots of pics

swear to you, i cant believe i have a stack. 4 years later of dreaming about it, its a reality! BONKERS!!

tomorrow im going to wire everthing up and put the swithes somewhere. hmmm
but thats about it. its almost ready once i get my ew fittings and adapters i can really REALLY turn it on hehehehehe :)

fuckin awesome... love you car Dousan... all business, great parts, the way it should be. Looking at your ECU mounting spot, though, I can imagine slapping my passenger when shifting from right turn to left turn mid-drift, after hearing their knees bash the ECU lol, ever a problem?

american in japan: no idea on the painless kit part number. had it well over ayear now. i cant remember. summitracing.com
search painless.
go to town.

jAy: took exactly pretty much 1 month. 100% deposit. hehe..and yeah. it was way fast. mostly because they had to make it or ship from england? shipped out of IN i believe. but pretty much exactly 1 month from the time i ordered it.

the ecu, actually no ones ever hit it. mostly because i have a bucket seat for the passnger so not really moving around much at all.
im going to maybe remount it on the passenger side were it should be. might do that today. gotta get to work soon.

hit up the electirc store to get some new wire and stuff, the stack wiring is pretty short (lenght) so need to extend the batter wires as well as the buttons. going to move the buttons to the din area, which is where ill mount the boost gauge.
busy day again! :)

Dousan_PG
05-27-2007, 06:29 PM
WELL!!

ITS IN! IT'S WIRED!!

IT WORKS!

enjoy!

i will get MUCH BETTER pics later
i suck at photography!
haha

first things first
to put the buttons on the center din, i had to extend the wires
since i might move them later, i did them 'ghetto' kinda but it works GREAT
no problems

this shit is rad
i think lindsay wants to get one
really, about 1500 bucks is a DAMN GOOD DEAL considering if u bought all that w/ defi gauges

again i dont have the boost option w/ the stack (waaay too much money)
so thats why i have the defi boost
and if i get a defi fuel pressure again i can upgrade it.

didnt put the speedo thing in yet, its nothing like a stock unit.
same w/ teh fuel level
havent done that yet, maybe one day for this. dont really care.

Baller............ Is this the 8130 model or something different? I always wondered how they calibrated the fuel shit on the stack.

I was so close to buying something similar (SPA instead of stack) but I pussed out. Not man enough to rock this kind of shit LOL.

Dousan_PG
05-27-2007, 09:52 PM
the STACK fuel sems to wire into the stock unit?
u have to calibrate what is empty or what u want to be 'empty' and what is full
so if u want empty to be 5g u set it at such
its pretty cool!

sthe stack site goes thru ALL the models.
thats how i found what i wanted
and Brian at MA helped outtoo.

what are all those switches for on your dash?

ThatGuy
05-28-2007, 05:19 PM
That is the switch panel that comes with the Painless Wiring Kit.

I believe it comes with fused switches for: Start, Ignition, Fuel Pump, Electric Fan/Water Pump, and Two Accessories. But I could be wrong.

Dousan_PG
05-28-2007, 05:23 PM
yes my car has a painless kit

starter , ignition, fuel, acessories, accessories, accessories.

i got them wired up for the things i need and use.

fromxtor
05-28-2007, 05:30 PM
Aaron I have also wanted one of those for years. :bigok:How hard is it to wire up the "painless" kit, and which one are you using?

Dousan_PG
05-28-2007, 06:14 PM
i have no idea which im using, ahd it for over a year

drftwerks
05-28-2007, 09:00 PM
for those looking at the painless kits, dont do like i did and get the 18 circuit, and the 8 switch panel, haha both are pretty overkill for a track car, i have so many switches, and circuits that i dont know what to do with them, haha,

Ian
05-28-2007, 09:23 PM
I've got the same one as dousan

Switches are Window power and lights (window power just allows me to use power windows **S14** and lights turns on gauges and taillights...I have no headlights)

EDIT

I'm talking about painless switch panel...not STACK cluster lol

Dousan_PG
05-29-2007, 01:17 PM
cost
ease

500 bucks done
not the BEST tune
but plug in and im off to the track, minor tuning w/ the FPR and such.

05-29-2007, 11:11 PM
Looks good man, a clean install. You're in good shape if you ever decide to do any road racing where lap timing/data logging is beneficial. The Stack datalogging is better than AIM and comparable to Motec IMO, and the Motec costs at least twice that.

Johny5
05-30-2007, 04:01 AM
hey aaron is your enthalpy a tad rich down low?

i think lindsay wants to get one
really, about 1500 bucks is a DAMN GOOD DEAL considering if u bought all that w/ defi gauges

1500 bucks? or 900?

Ive seen one of these on a couple SCCA integras

Id be expecting something a little more bling like the haltech or motech Full LCD screen units for something over 1 g.

But I guess it works with stock ecu inputs so thats cool

Dousan_PG
05-30-2007, 11:46 AM
stack doesnt use stock inputs!
the fuck u talking about shadows?
did u read nothing on this thread?

u can datalog, lap time, and other cool stuff

yeah i saw all of that, im saying if you could use

this

http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1923

i dont have EMS, no pfc, no motec, no aem, etc etc.
enthalpy rom tune

Stacck runs its own sensors.
i used to run all Defis. but this works out better for my setup.

so it runs an individual sensor for every single input? no ecu draw at all?

Sorry i just got tierd of reading all 4 pages

Dousan_PG
05-30-2007, 11:52 AM
i looked into the AIMs, not feeling it

this does exactly what i want
and with a an analog tach

and the AIM is ugly. seen it in person
haha

u buy that. i buy this. im happy. you're happy.
build cars for our personal tastes.

you're all about the HALTECH anyways. of course u'd want that one.
i doubt ill ever end up w/ a haltech.

this stack is about 1500

the aim i could get under 9 no problem with some people i know
but i dont like the AIM.

stack is classic, simple, not super complex and it does the functions i need.
i drift.
i love analog tachs. cant stand digital ones. bleh.

anyways
as they say on the internet.

well i totally understand what your saying about the analogue tach.

I prefer it as well. Time attack drag, drift whatever im doing. Ive had 7 years of watching s13 tachs and im very happy with seeing the little needle bouncing around in my periphiral vision when im racing

If they offered something like this that I could configure to work with the haltech outputs I would be game. I just don’t see the point in running parallel duplicate sensors on inputs I already have available, for my PERSONAL needs, not yours.

Because all of the stack sensors are scientific quality, and lab calibrated against the dash.

Offered something like what? AIM sports dash. Its cool, and might as well be the same price as the stack to do what you want. The only thing is it has control macro buttons you can set to trip the haltech/motech/aem whatever, because its just a ground switch.

....

scientific quality?

I sure hope my crappy GM sensors are scientific quality :keke:

calibrated against the dash? ok... -so its a standalone real time feedback unit that you can see only in real time

-but if you cannot data log it IMO its just a meter, its not something i can use to replay or monitor the vehicle's function.

And im not sure about you "racers" on here but I don't feel like remembering what happened, id rather see it on my cluster (if i have the option) hit a switch to begin data log, and end it when the lap is over, then check for un-safe parameters. Warning lights are the big plus to any unit like this incase you loseoil pressure or something of immediate concern. Looks like a cool system just not on my agenda right now, and i think ill get aquainted with the AIM unit to see if i like it first.

My stock dash seems to do the trick for me so far

When your in a FAST car its hard to take your eyes off the road, most of the time im not even looking at the tach let alone anything else when the car is screaming.

Its amazing how much hypocrisy people on here spew btw.

anyways enjoy the unit Dousan very cool piece of electronics

hey aaron,
forgot to tell you one of my friend is distributor for stack.
also sard makes alot of accessories for stack, but they only have the carbon cluster panel for s14 no s13.
the stack is a great unit, it uses military grade connectors and can be quick disconnected if you have to.
the thing that impress me was when you have it all light up at nite and the way the needle moves you can tell it's good stuff.
I sold mine awhile back because I didn't think it was useful for a street car, but I would buy one again for a race car.
oh, you should put the boost gauge next to the stack, mine was on the left of it.
keep up the good work,

sam
ps...the stack is not 1500 it's all the sensor and accessories that add up to it.

i bet it will never come out.

The Motec and Haltech are nice but the stack is a true classic and those tachs can never be replaced by any digital bar tach. I wish I had gone the entire dash route but I love the look of the single round 80mm tach and its all I could afford at the time. Now I just need the 80mm 4 bar boost meter...600$ though :sadwavey:
Sweet purchase Dousan.

Sard RD-1, boost included, pressure/temp sensors are not, but are ~45 for temp, and ~75 for pressure. Was going to do one next until something else came up.

Defi came out a while ago, I think Gruppe-S and some other places can get it for you if you want. There was a mini review on it on one of the big subie sites. I think it was i-club but not sure.

http://www.hotstaff-power.co.jp/dssc.html

It's even in a S13 LOL

For 2 g's though I would kinda rather get a Stack. Way more expandable and their data logging is proven top notch. Who knows what the defi shit is like.

i would have gotten the defi but

COST is the problem w/ it
and its very STREET CAR setup which is opposite of whati have haha

if i had a street car that was 350+ HP virge of a track car, i would have sprung for the defi

i drooled over the defi at TAS way too long hahaha

maybe when i get that R32 4 door and RB26 it, ill get a defi.
one day.
one day.

The Stack that Aaron has doesn't datalog. Stack datalogging is very nice, but it's also pretty expensive.

I've always like the stack clusters. I would love to put one in a street car sometime. I just couldn't justify putting one in a racecar with out a full data acq system. That's why I like the AIM Sports. I know, that most people don't like the digi tach, but I'm more a fan of flashing lights and they all flash when it's time to shift. And plus every unit except the base model unit datalogs, they interface with a lot of aftermarket ecu's and then you have a ton more input channels than you would with something of similar cost.

I'm not trying to start an arguement on which cluster is better, there's just a lot of misinformation in this thread and I'm trying to correct at least some of it.

So whatever, it looks classy, I like it.

I could probably get the AIM sports units for a very good price. We use them on pretty much every kart we put out these days. Although I'm familiar with the AIM and what it can do the Stack looks 10000x better regardless of the flashy lights and all the other BS.

i know this thread is hella old, but i wanted to ask a question and not make a new thread for it..

anyway im running the aem ems standalone and id like o buy the stack cluster. ive seen the aim sports ones and i dont like them. iirc the aim sports cluster would be easier to do install wise with the ems....what about the stack? does anyone have previous experience installing a stack with the aem unit or how it would be?

thanks

it woul be totally separate of the AEM
the stack has its own sensors and shit.
wont work with it

Yea... He mounted his on his steering column for now, but I think hes gonna use a cluster delete plate eventually. The analog tach is not that bad, plus you can have warning lights for 4 things, shift lights... its just got so many nice features

can you drop all the lap timer BS off the display? Any pics I have seen has the lap timer showing.

Chase, get the Kognition plate for the AIM.

BUT...isn't the AIM setup about the same cost as the Stack?

Even if it is $500 more, get it because you like it. Don't settle for something you don't want. Save a couple more weeks and get what you want.

I think the lower model of AIM can be had for less that a grand with all the sensors, if memory serves.

STACK is more like $1500 and up.

The thing about a digital tach too is it can be changed, based on engine etc etc.

mr_240sx
09-20-2007, 08:57 AM
yeah i got my aim sports with all the sensors needed for under 1k shipped to me. i can change my shift lights and the digital tach grid to go to 6k - 8k 10k depending on engine rev range. i just wish i would have paid a few bucks more for teh strada in stead but i still like the mychron. definately cheaper then the custom setup i was gonna do with defi gauges ( similar to aaron's old setup).

Full-Lock
09-20-2007, 09:25 AM
yea. the aim im looking at is the mxl...the 1k one..with the blue backlite display. i like it but i like the stack better. its no big deal..ill just go with the aim since it seems like a lot less hassel with my standalone. and like someone suggested the kognition carbon cluster delete.

im looking for a more oem looking setup and i always see the aim mounted on the steering column with a bunch of brackets and stuff. and with the aims odd shape i dont think it would fit in the actual cluster well. does anyone have pics of the aim mounted?

sorry to kinda thread jack

240trainee
09-20-2007, 09:32 AM
I think it could be done, but because of the size you will need to play around with it more than stack, possibly more cutting.

mr_240sx
09-20-2007, 01:20 PM
yeah i wanted the stack but financially i couldnt justify it and iirc it doesnt come with boost and all kind of sensors that i needed....those were all extra when i was looking into it last time. and the aim comes with everythig you need. i know looks, i prefer the stack cluster but sometimes looks isnt everything.

Slidin240Wayz
09-20-2007, 01:51 PM
Your car setup is really nice. I would hate to see the cluster area cut up to fit the AIM cluster.

If it fits...go for it. Ask Mats for some dimensions.

If it don't...Stack it up!

this is the AIM i would go with

http://www.ziptied.com/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10252/cluster05.jpg

i dont see it fitting the factory cluster. so it would probably need to be mounted like that.

then i would do this
http://www.kognitiondesign.com/s13_gauge-delete.jpg

and put 1 52mm hole on each side of the carbon delete...1 for my wideband, the other for a boost gauge.

thats probably what will end up happening. ill talk to some more people about the stack..but i dont think it would work as well with the aem.

if i did the stack id do black face w/ the sard carbon surround.

mr_240sx
09-20-2007, 03:20 PM
why get another boost gauge if your using aim? cause aim comes with a boost sensor.... but yeah thats exactly the same setup i will do to my car come winter time except ill have wideband and oil temp on each side of it with the kognition CF cluster delete plate!
