I was a topten player for season 1 starcraft (pre-korea). 36-0 at one point, Once it was released there all hell broke loose. Every day 1000 korean names would get banned for cheating. If I could find my CD key I would still play, right now I play Warcraft III when I have time.

they released another set of demos not to long ago like early december i believe. IMO they are doing the right thing in taking their time and not rushing it. And there are plenty of people who are willing to wait, me being one of them. Its not about the money IMO, like you said they are making plenty. This is about producing a quality game, especially a game that has a huge following like SC. Just think there are still hundreds of thousands of people who play a game that was released a decade ago (which is like forever in computer games IMO).

Very fun game. Typical blizzard though, everyone has a beta key before they shut it down for pre-release testing. They do that to get a lot of people playing and increase the hype.

Overall I'm happy with it, I just wish I had another month or so to play and get burned out so I don't have to buy it :)

The balance is good, but late game is still kinda shaky for me. I tend to not know what units to build and its hard to switch gears when your countered. I've been playing a lot of 4v4 since the patch, but its laggy as fuck and freezes every game.

I wanted a card that can run starcraft 2 on ultra with out having to worry about.. anything really. It saves energy since no energy is being used to cool down the card. It's also quiet as hell. If your worries about it still over heating, which is never the case as you wont see me overclocking, The way my coolermaster case is made gives it perfect airflow and cooling with just using 2 very quiet case fans. (nothing crazy) I only paid 40$ for a 1gb card! I'm not the type to run a fully gutted, full roll cage, ultra stiff suspension for a daily drive.

Now if you're a hardcore gamer/computer freak then I would still be looking at passive aeronautical cooling graphic cards. Most of the NEWER cards are becoming aeronautical.

... SC2 is extremely retarded to me. Hard counters were never the way of starcraft and is pulling the balance off the game. It's pretty stupid. Not too excited anymore after watching the beta games.

IMO Starcraft 2 is just like it needs to be. The "Hard Counters" seem to me to be the same as they were in the original, only thing is that they seemed to focus more on the microing of unit forces and that has brought a lot of depth to the game for me.

It's a lot about the little things. New units and combination of units are very powerful but are countered by other strategies. Once you think you have a good strat, someone goes and counters you. Scouting is WIN in this game.

I'm really excited for competitive play. I played A LOT of beta, probably like 300+ games so I'm ready to stomp a ton of noobs with the release :)

i know its only $3, that's not the big issue. i just think there's less hassle in going to the store and getting it for about the same price, plus you could be able to get it at 12am midnight, install it, and probably be playing by 12:30am.

I actually save 1.14 from buying it on ebay. Minus the gas saved from driving to my local gamestop. alright. so i'm playing it. and damn if this isn't the weirdest game ever. its a 2010 game with modernish graphics, late 90s gameplay and early 90s intermission segments.

graphics and gameplay, i'm sure you guys can guess. same shit everyone else is saying. it's old and new, doesn't change much. it's fun. done.

but what i want to mention is really the intermission segments - this is the weirdest part of the game for me. these parts look awesome (except when they bring in the game engine to show unit dispositions on the ground - jarring against the stylized realism).

however, the way it is presented is lifted straight out of wing commander 1 (1990) and a million space sims / adventure games that followed in the decade between 1990 and 2000. this whole way of presenting an environment pretty much died with fps and later, third person fps.

seeing it in a new game in 2010 is both awesomely nostalgic and really strange.

It definitely can run on bootcamp, but my point was instead of paying $200.00 for Windows 7, I could buy a nice tower with Windows 7 already installed in the range of $400.00 and I'll have many more options than my Macbook.

My macbook is awesome for absolutely everything (except for playing SC2.) It runs amazingly quick, it never locks up on me, it has plenty of storage, it works perfectly for all of my photoshoping and imaging needs, BUT.....

With a new Gateway or HP, for example, tower I can hook it up to my plasma TV in HD and have 42" of SC2, as well as watching movies, and posting on Zilvia on a HUGE screen.

it's not just blizzard, most pc games require pretty good graphics card now a days. sc2 requirements aren't even as demanding as other games.

plus, most of the computers best buys has is probably normal home/office/student type computers with some general video card.

pc gaming is expensive since it cost a lot to build a pc. this is one of the reasons pc gaming is dying.

(thank god for increasing dependency on GPUs, on that note)

well a lot of PC games are now sold online & downloaded via sites like Steam.
it works out for the buyer b/c it's convenient, usually no sales tax, & many specials.
(I got Bioshock & Mass Effect for $5 each)
retail stores are pretty much unnecessary & I can see how it wouldn't be their priority.
Even without the sites, it's often cheaper to buy games on Amazon to skimp tax.

Personally I'm not too concerned about the graphic capabilities of a pc, even though I agree it's a pro.
There are just a good deal of games that are PC exclusive, despite porting.
I just prefer PC games to consoles in general, I don't know how to explain in detail.
I prefer the use of a keyboard & mouse, vs. some joystick.

I also like the fact that even new PC games are still $50, vs $60 for consoles.
To me, PC gaming actually works out to be more affordable than consoles, but I'm probably not in the majority.
In the past few years I've purchased less than a dozen games combined for my 360 & Ps3, vs. dozens for my PC.

i don't get why people would pirate sc to play campaign. there's a story there, yes, and you get to learn about the units, but most of the fun is in multiplayer (as it is with most games) and i'm pretty sure you can't experience that on a pirated copy.

yes, activision is splitting sc2 into 3 parts to milk the cash cow as much as they can. it's activision, the company that made a shitload of sequels for guitar hero and call of duty. i can't complain though. knowing how picky blizzard is with their games, they would have delayed it another 5 yrs if it was just to be a standalone sc2 + a future expansion. 2 additional sc2 will be like expansions and hopefully they add 2-3 new units/per race. what more can a sc fan want? i rather have my sc2 now then in 2015. i'm just not happy that i'll have to pay $180 for all three, but over time it's not as bad as it seems.

before i got into PCs, which was fairly recently, i wondered why pc gaming was dying. googled and read some articles and there are a majority of reasons. one of the main reasons is piracy and developers not making as much due to it than on a console version. they spend all their time and money developing a game on pc that's going to get pirated, when the console market is more lucrative. plus they have to worry about different specs when developing compared to consoles since people have all types of different pcs. with consoles, everyone has a standard unit. there are other reasons, such as a gaming pc costing way more than a console. for $300, people can get a console and not worry if a game will run on it. the average joe will go with a xbox or ps3 if they know nothing about building a pc.

i'm starting to get most of my games on pc except for multiplayers (which i'll usually get on xbox because of the xbox live userbase) and exclusives, which ill get on xbox, ps3, or wii, respectively. most of the single player games i'm getting on pc like fallout 3, mass effect, bioshock, just cuase 2, etc. the resolution and graphics are just plain superior and i don't know why people would settle for less. plus pc games are usually cheaper than consoles and you can get some great sales on steam.

That and playing computer opponents while on a plane.. in an airport.. downloaded the PC version (which has the mac version integrated) cracked it.. played the campaign.. deleted it all...

God I was first inline for starcraft one.. even got the limited edition protoss shirt with it.. Maybe it's just me but the graphics are better but the setup is the same. A couple of new units are nice but it's still the same thing.. alot of the strategies remain almost the same..

as to PC gaming dieing.. well that has to deal with the evolution of hardware.. nothing more... see a console is a fixed platform so "good graphics" are well pretty much everyone is on the same playing field.. as a game developer for a PC you must hit a moving target... Graphics cards get a speed bump every 2-3 months.. PC's the same and you must build a game to take advantage of the idiot who spent 4k SLI'ing 4 nvidia cards and has 20 gigs of ram and the latest intel chip overclocked into oblivion.. vs the guy who just bought an emachine for $399 at costco because it was a great deal and said "great for games" on the sticker in the front.. your game must play on both those machines.. that's a tall order.. not only that but it needs to play under xp, vista, windows 7, and mac os... that's alot of QA... especially with the service packs etc.

i'm just not happy that i'll have to pay $180 for all three, but over time it's not as bad as it seems.

before i got into PCs, which was fairly recently, i wondered why pc gaming was dying. googled and read some articles and there are a majority of reasons. one of the main reasons is piracy and developers not making as much due to it than on a console version. they spend all their time and money developing a game on pc that's going to get pirated, when the console market is more lucrative. plus they have to worry about different specs when developing compared to consoles since people have all types of different pcs. with consoles, everyone has a standard unit. there are other reasons, such as a gaming pc costing way more than a console. for $300, people can get a console and not worry if a game will run on it. the average joe will go with a xbox or ps3 if they know nothing about building a pc.



as to PC gaming dieing.. well that has to deal with the evolution of hardware.. nothing more... see a console is a fixed platform so "good graphics" are well pretty much everyone is on the same playing field.. as a game developer for a PC you must hit a moving target... Graphics cards get a speed bump every 2-3 months.. i have to half disagree with you folks. those factors are certainly part of it but they are secondary factors. all those shortfalls (such as piracy and nonstandardized computers) were all present even when PC gaming was at its height. so why do they kill PC gaming now, but not back then?

PC gaming thrived despite those drawbacks because pc games were years ahead of consoles. for example, PC guys had already been playing networked multiplayer games for years, while the best console multiplayer experience you could get was what... split screen goldeneye? xbox live was just a concept a few years off, and sony online network wouldn't hit for an entire 1.5 console generations.

PC has basically preceded console on major tech developments, FMV, full voice, high resolution graphics, networked multiplayer, etc. until now. now that PC and console have evened out, all those secondary factors become hugely important. if there's no huge advantage to PC, there's no reason to put up with all those weaknesses in the PC platform, like piracy and nonstandardized hardware spec. and so now, PC gaming suddenly takes second fiddle to console development.

finally got to install it and played a few games last night. i opted for the practice run (you get 50 games of practice before you are ranked) to learn the game. dam i'm a noob again playing with other noobs in practice mode. i have no beta experience.

i was zerg yesterday with 6 expansions playing against a protoss with 2 bases who made probably 3-4 dark templers. i couldn't for the life of me find out how to detect cloaked units. he raped all my hydras, zerglings, and roaches then proceeded to kill my main with all my tech buildings until i got a lair in one of my expo and found out you had to transform overlords to overseers, but by then i was done and only had a spawning pool against his carriers.

another game, i was playing a 2v2 against 2 terrans who turtled in their base. they probably got 1 expansion each, and i mined the entire map while my allie did shit. we had no idea how to get into their base losing wave after wave of ultras, thors, marines, mutas because they had siege tanks and missile turrets everywhere until i found out how to make the siege flying unit for zerg. they don't even transform from mutas anymore..

You can use the the zerg overlords to detect cloaked units. There are zerg buildings that detect cloaked, but I don't remember... I just play UMS and the campaign.

Go help menu at the top and look at the zerg tree.

overlords -> Overseer with layer to detect, not just overlords like in SC1.

DT's + Void Prism in the mineral line is so win. That or stalkers fast with observer, blink onto the mineral line and own shit up.

Speedlings, run past their defenses straight to minerals, win like 60%.

Hella fun game, I play like 4 hours a day haha.

Best way to win so far and what I've witnessed is:

Protoss
Make 4 warp gates
Stalker army
Win (usually)

It isn't an I Win, but it's very hard to defend against. And even if you do hold 'em off, you're pretty damaged.

haven't seen anything like that yet for Zerg or Terran.

Speedlings > stalkers and if you build like a noob they can finish your base no problem. 4 gate is a good build because it gives you flexability and with good scouting you can counter their push and win easy.

Balance Changes

We have several balance changes in store. One general change we're making is that friendly units will no longer provide vision after being killed. Enemy units previously revealed will no longer be targetable. Now let's break down the additional balance changes we're implementing.

Maps

We're going to be adding destructible rocks to the Desert Oasis map to make natural expansions easier to protect. In addition, the center map watchtower area is being narrowed.

Protoss

We have two key changes in mind for the zealot: the build time is being increased from 33 to 38 seconds, and the warpgate cooldown is being increased from 23 to 28 seconds. Zealot rushes are currently too powerful at various skill levels, particularly those that rely on rapidly assaulting an enemy base from nearby "proxy" gateways. We feel the window players have to scout for and fend off this rush is too small. We also want to address the problem of protoss being able to dump minerals a bit too quickly with the combination of warpgates and Chrono Boost.

Terran

There are several changes in the works for terrans. Reapers against zerg are stronger than expected. Due to the zealot build time increase, reapers would be a bit problematic in combination with proxy barracks, bunkers, and/or marauders against protoss. Therefore, we have decided to increase the build time of reapers as well from 40 to 45 seconds. Fast reaper + bunker, or fast marine + bunker rushes are problematic against zerg. Although this rush would never outright destroy the zerg player, we feel zerg suffers too much of a disadvantage from either having to cancel the fast expansion, or getting trapped inside the main base for too long, so we are also increasing the bunker build time from 30 to 35 seconds.

Siege tanks in large numbers are performing too well in all matchups. In the mid- to late-game, siege tanks are too dominant against all ground units. We want a small set of light and unarmored ground units to perform better against siege tanks. With this in mind, we're changing the Siege Mode damage of the siege tank from 50 to 35, +15 vs. armored; to correspond with this, damage upgrades will be changed from +5 to +3, +2 vs. armored. This change reduces the base damage of the siege tank against light and unarmored units, as well as the splash damage.

Battlecruisers currently lack good counters from the ground and still perform very well against a wide array of unit types. We're aware that it is not easy to get battlecruisers out for the cost, but at the same time, it is possible in both 1v1s and team games to create stalemate situations to bring them out. Overall, we feel that battlecruisers are too strong for their cost, and the terran-forced stalemate situations are causing less interesting gameplay. We will be lowering their damage against ground units from 10 to 8.

Zerg

Ultralisk damage is being decreased from 15, +25 vs. armored to 15, +20 vs. armored. This reduction is comparable to the changes being made to the battlecruiser and siege tank. Like the battlecruiser, ultralisks are simply too powerful for the cost, even though they are difficult to muster. Also, in combination with other units, ultralisks are difficult to counter from the ground. The ultralisk building attack (Ram) is being removed because the damage rate is too similar to its normal attack, which will be used against buildings instead. When ultralisks target tightly packed smaller buildings such as supply depots, the Ram attack is actually outputting considerably less overall damage than its normal attack, as Ram only hits a single target.

So down for the siege tank changes. That's a HUGE nerf. The zealot change makes sense. I'm not sure I aggree about the Battleship and Ultra changes, but its kinda inconsequential seeing as they don't get a TON of play. Reapers, nuff said haha. Hella cheese.

I have a 15'' MBP, the new one, and I run SC2 on max settings fine.

Also, I play LoL as well since DotA died. HoN was cool for awhile but I don't wanna pay $30 to play that game. It get's old. DotA is classic though and I wish I could play more but I don't know where anybody plays anymore.
