Yes you may, If you don't need to worry about emissions. I removed the AIV system completely in my '90 SOHC, but I live in Montana with no emission checks. I also romoved the EGR system and made a block-off plate for the intake manifold (I don't like exhaust gasses being pumped into my engine increasing combustion temperatures).

so the EGR system is also just for emissions control?  because im having a problem with that one too.  i have the bolt that fits in the header opening for it, but i cant find a tube that bends the right way to connect to the pipe.  i was thinking about using Bondo or some sealant like that to seal off the holes.  do you think that would be a good idea?

definitely NOT bondo.  fire!

try JB Weld.  or do it right.  what hole are you plugging up?

what's jb weld?  im definetly plugging up the hole on the header that the AIV tube is supposed to go into.  and i might also plug the EGR tube, but first i wanted to check that it wasnt neccessary for engine operation.  lmk, thanks.  i havent driven my car in a week & im starting to get desperate, as you can see by my Bondo suggestion.
