View Full Version : Does your accelerator foot burn, like mines?

Here's my dilemma: When I drive my car around for a while, the section, by my accelerator foot, gets extremely hot. I'm thinking it's my downpipe, since I have an xs one, but my friend said it's from my tranny. I only have the rubber accordion, covering my shifter. NOTHING else. My friend reasoned, that the hot air from the tranny, is getting blown back towards the car. Is anyone else running this DP? If so, do you have the same problem as me? Maybe, I should exhaust wrap my DP, to prevent the heat from burning my foot. Any input, is appreciated. Also, check out my WTB thread, regarding, the shifter parts, i'm missing.

There's a small hole in the firewall where the throttle cable goes through, maybe you've got a little gap? Gold heat shielding on the firewall helps a ton.

its your down pipe. its right next to your tranny. causes the heat get very hot there.

Is it because, I got a el cheapo downpipe? If that's the case, i'm gonna pick up, an rsr from aspeclogan.

mine gets hot after about an hour . 3" piping sits very close to the floor. Theree is a ton of heat there, turbo, manifold, DP, cat., ect. Just turn your climate cont. to cold and to feet and you will be fine!

same, and i had a nice dp.. its just the floor getting hott from running hot recycled air through it for an hour+... normal stuff

LMAO "el cheapo down pipe" lmao i think i have one to! its just a stright pipe from the manifold back! and i get no heat. maybee you should up grade to the "el cheapo" brand

mine was like this on my swapped 240 in the states... it sucked.. i don't think it matter which dp you have though

Yea, you guys to realize that all a downpipe is is piping right?

RSR doesn't make their downpipes from magic self cooling metal or some shit.

do you have carpet in your car? if not put some in.

bottom line is they get hot and instead of being on the other side of the car as designed by nissan you now notice it.

take the elbow back out amd the down pipe and cover thn with heat wrap. will keep the floor much cooler. i used to melt the bottom of my driver shoe over time cuz it would get so warm. ruined a pair of shoes when i drove from seattle to la nonstop one night!

wow nismornr, thats pretty crazy. lol. yeah, get some padding and heat wrap.

i have my downpipe wrapped in heat wrap and it gets warm but not hot enough to melt shoes or complain about it.

Well this is interesting.
How would I NOT have experienced this?
Especially on my 20+ hr drive from WA to socal?
(I have a Blitz DP)
Is there a heat shield maybe that's been removed? I can't remember, it's been so long since I've been under that area of my car :/

try taking out your carpet then driving around. it gets REALLY hot!

my floor pan by the throttle was 130+ degrees the other day.

If you have carpet in and any amount of heat shield around it; you probably won't really notice. I don't. But without carpet and/or heat shielding, your feet are gonna get a little warm. haha

Wrap it up w/ some heat wrap and hit the floor pan with some heat shielding (gold foil shit works)

have the same problem, after long driving my foot burns. I got rid of it by getting adhesive thermal wrap, it just sticks to the firewall of the car. You run this up from the extension down. Dont wrap up the down pipe.

mRclARK1

Dont wrap up the down pipe.

Why do you say that? I've seen lots of downpipes wrapped with zero problems.

^^^ heat wraps are cool thing to have, but it can make your pipes or manifold crack faster due to the heat not being able to dissipate and therefore the heat is trapped and cause cracking of exhaust manifold or pipes. So I don't wrap anything at all. My interior is completely gutted and sometimes I do burn my shoe or leg during a long drive. But oh well.

i got the same problem, but i do have carpet haha...im gonna buy the floor mats from checkers, or put some home carpet in

Thanks for all the input, probably won't wrap my dp now. Gonna have to jack up my car, and see if I can heat wrap the bottom of my chasis, above the DP. :D

Oh yea same problem I cant drive in sandels or Id be burning. sometimes even through my shoes. you can do what these guys said and put the heat shield down or just get a metal floor pad instead of the floor mat. plus they look cool to IMO...

well coming back from teh trac klast friday my right foot was getting quite hot and i still run carpet.... but just turning on the fan to 1 and then blowing cool air solved the problem!

Of course it does!

it ended burning a small hole right where my heel sits. gets hot as hell. i ended up wrapping up my pipe. seems to have solved the problem.

Heatwrap your DP. If youre worried about it cracking, then spend a little more to have it coated and your problems will be solved.

Or the cheapest solution - just turn on your AC and have the air blow down to your feet.

what is this A/C you speak of?? But seriously, just set your climate control to cool/feet and all is well

im having the same thing as well...heatwrap sounds a good idea to me, but will it create any other problem other than cracking? because heat will be trapped in the dp, will it heat up the engine and causing overheat?

no, it will not.

Buy a new DP and send it out to get ceramic coated.

Or, just wrap it. Most of the wrap problems are from mild steel pipes heat oxidizing. SS has less of a problem. I haven't ever seen a 240 DP crack unless you hit something so the odds are low. Make sure you coat it with wrap protect ant as it is under the car and exposed to weather.

If you wrap an exhaust correctly it will slow the heat transfer off the surface of the pipe. Lessening the heat differential. With a the pipe absorbing less heat the hot exhausts will flow faster thru the pipe (not slower).

Make sure you just wrap with the minimum overlap. The idea is to reduce heat transfer not make a blanket to keep the heat in.

mine burns me, one of my friends had a hole there and he drove for 5 hours, his dad's shoe melted lol...

i turn on my A\C to feet only and it sets it right, but then the heat and cold mixed together causes a weird feeling to me =\

Took the words right out of my mouth. This is very true. Find alternatives to heat wrapping.

ugh, your downpipe is far enough away from any heat to where its not gonna get hot enough to crack

it doesn't have enough welds on it to crack

its stainless steel.

ive never heard of a pipe cracking unless its made really crappy steel.

Manfiolds yes heat soak is much worse on the manifold

I never had a problem with any of the bottm mount cars liket his, and even my giant 3 incher off my top mount is wrapped slightly and i never get a hint of heat.

ic...thx for helping, i also notice many track/DD heavy modify car like Evo/S15 in my country also use heatwrap on exhaust manifold/downpipe too. so i think it is not a very bad idea to use them i guess, just like S14DB said dun make a blanket to cover it.

question tho...
As for minimum overlap, how much will it be enough for "minimum"? is 1-2 layer enough?

im going to change my cat very soon, my 15 years old stock KA cat starts giving me so much heat so i think its time to use catco, anyways i am planning on wrapping the downpipe (Apexi) and the exhaust manifold (stock with SR) along with the job. i also run Apexi GT exhaust FYI

summer is coming real soon, i dun want to get toasted in my car (i dun have AC) so anything would help.
thx again:D

Not layers. The edges overlapping. You overlap the edges like 1/4" as you wrap. Defenatly don't want layers.

^^Is your name Fred? ;)

Just get the DP ceramic coated. It should solve all of your problems.
