Can you run a 5 pt harness with R32 seats? The areas I would wonder about would be a provision for the sub strap and the small size of the hole for the shoulder straps.

Any thoughts?

for one thing, use 2'' belts. They have been proven to be safer by the FIA and will fit in there better. I dont know if it will work with the seat, it looks like it should...Just remember, if you dont mount them properly they have no use at all in a crash

Care to provide your reference to the statement that the FIA says 2'' is better? I'm about to buy a 6-point but not sure whether to go 2 or 3 inch.

It was an article in Race Car Engineering. I'd search around on Google for it. Just search for general safety on harnesses.

and for the record, i dont think racing harnesses are always the safest for street applications.

1) ROLL BAR
2) You need a hole in your fucking seat for a crotch belt.
No point unless your tracking the car, so go with a 4-point schroth setup.

Many people believe the regular seatbelt is often safer for street use.... Might want to research that before using a harness on the streets

dude, when the hell did this guy say he was street racing?? And how would having a 5pt harness be more dangerous on the street, if the roof caves its gonna cave whether or not you're wearing a 5pt harness. And a regular seatbelt isn't gonna protect your noggin any better

he's saying that because a regular seatbelt is made collapsible and a harness will keep your shoulders up

Idiots.
No roll bar = your fucking HEAD is a roll bar. Get it?
You want harnesses, get a rollbar.

true.
however. chances of rollover are minimal. its the side impact you got to worry about haha.
if u have a bucket seat u really dont need a harness unless you got a cage. i got spl seat and i didnt even bother putting in 5 point i have, still using stock belts it works great. but once i do my cage it will change.

I wouldnt say that chances of rollover are minimal, not for me atleast. I drive in the canyons, the side of street = mountain edge. Last I want is a 3pt holding me in.
You guys saw DeathProof - run harnesses and cage/bar. Just dont get shot by crazy bitches, they'll smash in your FACE.

I am selling some racing seats cheap w/ 5 pt harness openings, they are really sturdy seats (the same seats are FIA cert. by cobra), they konig v racing rush.. and I have low mount brackets w/ sliders to fit s13 too.

Now this might just be me, but I am pretty sure if you go of the edge of a canyon... you are fak'd anyways.

if you get a cage and ride around just make sure the clearance to your head is alot or else you're just screwed as without one. unless you want to drive around with a helmet on.

^ thats why u have low seat rails and padding for the cage. duh
slownslurious
04-27-2007, 05:03 PM
padding for the cage doesn't make a difference. if youve got a cage (extending forward of the seats) you need to be wearing a helmet while driving. period.

Not necessarily. I know several people that have rolled off of canyons/mountains and lived to tell the tales of their stupidity.

I know this guy. He lives in my part of town. He constantly tries to get into drift touge races with me, but he always loses because I can drift to Kroger faster, I actually use the faint style drift, he is more of a ebrake/powerover n00b. I kept telling him that I am a better racer than he is, and that I am apart of the Night Owl Professors, but he woudln't listen... tsk tsk...
jk, time for silliness to end.

Go get like, say, a NASA or SCCA rule book, and have your harnesses, seats, and roll over protection installed in a manner consistent with the rulebook. my experience with the NASA rulebook is that it spells out every little thing you need to do to be legal and safe. This is probably going to be far more reliable than asking people on online forums, in particular, one filled with E drifters, ricers, and idiots. 4 pt harnesses aren't safe because they ride up in a collision. You might as well keep your stock belts. 3" belts are safer than 2" because they distribute the forces of the collision across a greater surface area of your body, resulting in less trauma as they decelerate your body. It has nothing to do with strength; if strength was the only issue they would use chain.

yea yea. build a cage thats close to the chassis and away from your head and you can drive with no helmet no problem. ur mounting points are low for the seat + harness=you are not going anywhere near the cage. but then again, im probably and e-drifter.
