my friend also has a 240sx and he has the stock intake, the plastic one..hehe, but he said if u take off the lil other platic thing not the filter but the other plastic peice that is connects to the bottom of the intake.. he says if u remove that that it will make better air-flow, and he said most people do that on the stock intake until they get a new one..please tell me if this is true cause then i am gunna to take it off..lol

Well please get abck to be as soon as possible.

I will try to get a picture of what i mean thansk again

You are talking about removing the y-pipe and resonator box. They are safe to remove and will possibly allow some cooler air to enter your engine bay, while making the intake sound a little more aggressive. The y-pipe is fairly restrictive in that the inlets are large, yet it constricts to a narrow diameter midway up. The gains are likely to be minimal, so at the very least you save 5 lbs and gain some engine noise (in a good way).

i didn't notice a difference, but then again I took it out only after i replaced the whole intake

Actually by removing the Y-pipe you would not get cooler air, you would infact get hotter air from the engine. The y-pipe, even though restrictive pulls cooler air from underneath the fender instead of hot under the hood air. But there really isnt any difference in feel between the two so if you want the sound of an intake go for it but there will be no gains.

Actually, by keeping the Y-pipe, you're not pulling any air at all. The resonator box underneath the air box doesn't duct any air into the air filter. Remove the resonator box, keep the Y-pipe, and THEN you'll pull "cooler" air from under the fender.

Call me crazy, but I noticed a difference after removing the box/y-pipe/resonator.. Maybe not in 'power', HP, but definetly in engine response. I could even go so far as to show the difference if I had a host to upload videos to.

True, it does draw air from in the engine bay, but it also opens another hole just below the intake and once at speed, the effects are negligable I would guess. Also it draws air from the corner of the engine bay, farthest from the heat source. I still contend that the extra air flow at high rpm outweighs the marginal heat gain.

I wanted to try this out, but I don't to mess anything up. So, I remove the whole the box, but what would happen to the filter? Would more dust and other crap get into the plastic tube? Plus, I would remove the air duct correct or am I just way off and I have no idea what I am talking about. Oh, and one more thing, would I have to leave the top cover bolted to the mass airflow sensor on? The cover I am the talking about is the top cover for the air box.

you can and should remove everything that doesn't have a sensor attached to it before the air box. i did it, and yes, i noticed a difference, however slight, in throttle response. add a K&N and you'll probably gain yourself a few extra horses for only the cost of the filter, not bad if you ask me.

no, wat they are saying is that you take off the plastic y pipe that comes out of the box with the filter. That pipe goes down to another box (resonator box) which is harder to see. You can just remove the pipes or you can pull out the wheel well liner and remove the whole box
