My friend just got his car painted by maaco for $700 and i was surprised becuase it was a half way decent job a few minor mistakes but he is bringing it back into them to fix em up for free! Anyone else get their 240's painted by maaco?? And how did it turn out?

most say it all depends on the maaco you go to. Some do shitty job and some do decent

I remember a post while back on the same topic. There were mixed reviews on Maaco and Earl Scheib. I guess your friend got lucky by taking it to a good Maaco place.
Ok, here is two I found. I remember reading another post but couldnt find it. Use the search if you want to find more. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

700? My local maaco charges half that. Jeff pointed out to me that "Maaco does a paintjob for 300 and it cost us 250 to paint a door." Although most of the reason is that they make their own line of paint, they (ours at least) cut corners wherever possible. No sanding, they just soak the car in some harsh solvent and hose it off. The paint looks ripply and peels in months.

maaco isnt as bad as everyone thinks...this is what mine looked like after they did it:

I sprayed the bumper flat black becuase i damaged it a while after the paint job...but the car was very shiny...but alas, I'm currently repainting my car again, this time im doing it myself and its turing out much better then maaco job, even though it was quite nice.

You think that i can prep the car for paint and let maaco paint it? Does that sound like a good idea? Or is their paint that bad that it still will be pretty crappy

The main difference between Maaco paints and most other paint companies is that Maaco doesn't use multiple layer clear coats. They do have a polyurethane coat, and while it does shine like you wouldn't believe, it can leave a blotch if you are trying to wet sand it at all, whereas a strong clear coat won't blotch as easy.
My Stealth is at Maaco right now while I'll be out in California so when I return I'll try to get some pictures and let you all know about the quality.

Yuo think I can ask them t oput on some extras layers of clear coat for some extra money will help the paint from getting crappy looking after a few months?

I say just get a professional paint job. Try ShowCase in totem lake/kirkland area. I've heard some good things about them. Also 405 collision in totem lake (off of 405 exit 22 iirc) had a turbo II rx-7 when i went to get an estimate, I came back about a week later, maybe 9 days... and the car was immaculate. I was sitting next to the guy that owned it the first time i came when he went to get a brand new paint job. I have no idea what it cost him though. If you want their numbers, I can probbably dig them up tomorrow.. just leave me a PM
