Tryin to see what, if anything, a one piece d/s will do for me. who has one and what they think of the gains versus the money, what kind and how much?

One piece aluminum driveshaft is lighter then 2 piece steel. Lighter driveshaft means less rotating mass, which translates into less parasitic loss through the drivetrain. Same as a lightweight flywheel.

Pretty basic stuff.

I can't give a very comprehensive review, but I can offer my impression of the said part. I have the DSS aluminum driveshaft. I had it on my s14 the first time I drove it. I never used the stock ds. The sr front clip i had came with a damaged ds, and the one that came with my s14 shell was in pretty poor condition. so i just thought why not just replace it with the 1-piece alum ds? It was a fairly affordable part anyways.

since i never had the stock ds, i wouldn't be able to compare the two parts fairly. all that i can say is that my car feels stock. that fact that it does, i think speaks well of the part's workmanship. the dss aluminum is reasonably priced at around $400 iirc, and weighs around 10-11 lbs, vs the stock 20 lb ds. i do believe mazworx also has a carbon fibre ds, but that sells for around $1k, and it weighs only 8 lbs or so.

When i read up on some of the reviews, ppl (on zilvia or freshalloy i cant recall) said at a certain rpm on the freeway, the alum ds would make an uncomfortable resonating sound. I never experienced anything of that sort, and it had worked out fine for me. ride quality on my car was good by my standards, but not exactly optimal. if there was any undesirable effect on driveability i really wouldn't know if it came from the alum ds, some other part, my s14 being an old car w/ 125k odd miles on it, or just me being a lousy driver by default.

Is the part worth it? I can't answer that. All I can say is that my car revs pretty quick, and i like it. Its certainly not scientific at all to conclude that it must have been the ds that contributed to the faster revs, but that is a possibility.

i couldnt realy tell a difference when i got mine just more noise and vibration from the rearend. but if it makes you think your faster buy it.

the only reason i'm asking is because i don't like the looks of the 2-piece w/ the carrier bearing. i'm using the car to drag and the stress put on the ds seems like the carrier bearing won't hold up. anyone ever broke one, doing what?

Yeah i broke one once. I was with some friends and we were pretty drunk. I had this extra Drive shaft laying around the back yard. So we decided to play a game. We used an axe to see who can cut clean through the Ds with one blow. Im just kidding but Ive never heard of anyone breaking there DS but im pretty sure there are people out who have. I say just keep using the stock ds till it breaks then you go for a 1 peice.
