Hey Everyone: Just was wondering what is the price for resurfacing the head, and how much would resurfacing with port polishing? Also how much is a good price on balancing the crank? I am getting them done and just resurfacing is 290 dollars... Is that normal? Thanks everyone.

The machine shop we use charges $50 to resurface heads. I've never inquired about port work though...

No that's not normal thats outragous. I'm in the process of doing a review on Paeco Industries. http://paeco.com/Cylinder%20Head%20Modifications.htm (www.paeco.com) I have my head done with a basic head modification and it came to $840 with including milling the head true. Check out my write up on what was actually done and check out the website. Carl is a nice guy I'm sure he would be willing to take care of you. http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=138726

I think so... Ima call the shop that is rebuilding my engine an make sure 290 is just planing the head....

That's rediculous for a head resurface... I go to two local machine shops (Bob's Machine Shop and Hollywood Machine) and both charge $10/cylinder for bore/rehone, $40 for a head resurface/trueing, and about $100 for a full resurface/valve job. Porting and polishing is not neccessary or very benefitial for SRs, and just like bikes, get it done by someone who specializes in that particular motor.

I am in San Jose
For $300 I can have your whole head refreshed... Top to bottom with new valve guides and berrings. I also ceramic coated the block for the customer to prevent rust. We are capable of full engine rebuilts aswell.
Here's an example of our work... This is a 4ag 16 valve but the KA is relatively the same.

Its actually an SR20. How much would be new valve guides and milling the head? What would that be? But in general what are normal prices for these things? THanks

If you give me the valve guides and berrings I can probably do it for the same price... To mill the head you should dissasemble the whole thing first. A valve job is almost always done at that point.

OT but incidentally, i was trying to find a decent machine shop local. which of the two would you recommend for a full sr rebuild? thanks!
