So, I put a 91 non-HUD DOHC tach in my 89 HUD cluster. First off, most everything went smoothly. However, the two clusters are a bit different, so the tick marks on the tach don't show very much...the trim is a different size (smaller). But this is no big deal. However, the problem I'm having is threefold:
1. tach still doesn't work
2. CEL doesn't come on but the bulb looked fine
3. oil pressure light doesn't come on but the bulb looked fin.
So, I checked the 89 FSM and it looks like this:
1. Tach should have signal from the ECU (yellow/red stripe). I have to check this...it was hot and I was busy on Sunday.
2. CEL should have signal from ECU (grey/yello stripe??)
3. oil press should get message straight from sensor???
And I looked at all the other plugs in the FSM...seems like if something wasn't plugged together, a bunch of the other dash functions wouldn't be working. For example, the alternator light wouldn't come on, and it checks out just fine.
Is is fairly common for the tach wire to be cut during an install? What about the CEL? I'm going to check this out ASAP, but I wanted to see if any of you had any thoughts...
